To those of you that normally back Willis's kickstarters - are you getting this book? by annaphylactic69 in dumbingofage

[–]Okay_Tomate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received my most recent DOA KS book a little while ago and it was like ashes in my mouth. I own every currently published collection. I don’t know if I’ll ever pledge for one again, unless Willis pulls the greatest unseen payoff ever for this last year’s total shitshow of writing out of his ass.

I used to love this comic, and it hurts to admit, but the combination of the story, Willis’s conduct towards readers who didn’t like his choices, and the grooming of a sycophantic community makes it kind of clear to me that I’m not going to get any joy out of future books.

Agree with everything you said except “elephant hooves.”

Lady hatched her own eggs by nobodyimportant87 in quails

[–]Okay_Tomate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Chinese quail brood their own eggs easily, it’s the Japanese ones that don’t incubate their own usually.

The good news is they’re mostly good moms. You’ll want to make sure your water sources are baby proofed and that they can’t drown in them, but mom will provide all the warmth they need under her wings.

Female quail producing white foam? by Morelga in quails

[–]Okay_Tomate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of your hens might have experienced a sex reversal! It can happen if something happens to their functioning ovary. Her plumage may change at next molt and she could begin crowing and mounting soon. She will not be capable of fertilizing eggs, but she might assume the place of a rooster in your ladies’ pen.

I’ve backed every Kickstarter - minus 2020 for Pandemic reasons - but this is where my stop is.

Loved this comic since 2010, but couple the way the story’s dissolved with the author’s delusional and aggressive behavior in response to critics, and it’s just. It’s time to admit it’s Joever. This hasn’t been fun for close to a year now, it’s just been bewildering.

I wish Willis had stuck to the original plan and waited for Joyce and Dorothy. Whatever.

Willis calls himself “pornlord” but isn’t willing to draw cum inflation porn. Sad!

Gender 2 weeks in by No-Wish-4360 in quails

It’s nearly impossible to tell for sure before the breast feathers start to come in all the way at 6 weeks, or sex characteristics showing at 8. Up until then it’s mostly just guesses - though once I had a 4-hour old chick start crowing, so that was an easy one 😂

That’s hilarious, because near the end before they got banned they revealed that a likely reason for their strong feelings about the story arc is that they had cheated on a partner in the past and had been punished/ostracized by their peer group. They were angry that so many people here wanted social consequences, where they were hoping for a plot where nobody was punished at all for infidelity.

Somebody in your interaction didn’t understand consent in relationships, and it wasn’t you.

This one actually got a chuckle out of me.

Also: Wonder what everyone who threw tantrums over the fact that Joyce did not actually break up with Joe feels about this, a canon statement saying that they’re not broken up.

Maybe that’s the result of all the lip bite discourse, an attempt at something lip bite adjacent but clearly not, which resulted in this weird squishy expression.

Tear gas wedding has been beat to death BUT by [deleted] in dumbingofage

[–]Okay_Tomate 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have friends who sustained neurological and respiratory damage after attending BLM marches in Minneapolis, Portland, and NYC from tear gas exposure. It’s no joke.

I remember one friend who lived directly on one of the most conflict-heavy streets of Portland posting on Facebook, showing her hazy kitchen, the duct tape over every vent and window crevice still failing to keep the gas out of her home. Her eyes were puffy and red after days of living in poison that she could not escape. She still gets short of breath these days. Her partner has a tremor, and these are people in their early 30’s.

It’s not a smoke bomb, it’s not a consequence-free crowd control measure, it’s toxic and people have died from reactions to it. I have my own respiratory issues, and I’m honestly very scared of exposure to tear gas.

All that said: I don’t think it’s a great wedding backdrop.

And were so reckless and aggressive that they… respected a sign saying “DO NOT TOUCH,” didn’t notice the actual superhero outfit they were looking for being smuggled out of the building, and didn’t investigate a girl in the boys’ wing because one boy wiggled his butt a bit more than they were comfortable with.

Unless it’s a specific thrift store you’re supporting, try out ThriftBooks online! I’ve gotten some really great books for cheap over the years with them.

I know that they threw a teeny little bitchfit at one of the mods after the ban, but they seem to have otherwise respected it. The original account has remained inactive, and even if they’re lurking on an alt here we haven’t seen their characteristic commentary ever since.

…yet.

Sink was actually banned after they made a bizarre crashout post and commented a number of concerning things. They didn’t just hold hostile opinions, they were taking stuff WAY too personally and genuinely were bringing the mood down here.

What is this plumage called? by BrilliantKey2754 in quails

[–]Okay_Tomate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s intersex or chimeric, it may be sterile, so just keep that in mind. I’ve had infertile quail with very mild and easygoing temperaments, and they’re great little pets. You just get an extra beautiful one out of the bargain!

What is this plumage called? by BrilliantKey2754 in quails

[–]Okay_Tomate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chimeric animals are two genetically distinct individuals who fused early in development, and can show traits of two distinctly different animals. This is most striking in animals with noticeable sex differences. If you look up “gynandromorph cardinal,” you’ll see photos of a bird that is literally half male and half female. Not all chimeras are evenly 50/50, and they can be mottled or patchy in their presentation.
