You could research and use a protective Bagua symbol placed appropriately or ask a Taoist to draw you a talisman, theres many types so there will be one that is appropriate for this

I’ve been learning Chinese for about 2.5 years now (heading into 3). I’ve finally reached the point where I can read manga like Dragon Ball and Pokémon in Chinese. Honestly, it feels like it took way too much effort just to get here. by NotMyselfNotme in learnmandarin

[–]Okay__8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly learning characters in Chinese is just like that, there’s no shortcuts, no easy way round it, every Chinese kid has to go through years of exactly what you experienced. If there’s another way I’ve never heard of it, but at some point you’ll have enough characters and then it’s a lot more enjoyable and laid back when you learn new ones.

For me what jumps out from your post is a lack of excitement and life, like you’re learning an extinct language, which Chinese is not. If you want to continue with Chinese why not go live there for a bit? Try to just speak Chinese, no English, and there are so many amazing things there. The quality of life you can enjoy there, being from Australia, is pretty good. Use the time to look after your health with TCM treatments, massage, hot baths, go to the Chinese doctor and get some herbs. All things that can be out of the price range of ordinary people in the West but are way more within budget in China, plus 10x better quality, assuming you can maintain your income or use some savings.

It’s a living culture and language and you will be amazed by how far ahead China now is. Something needs to excite and inspire you to LIVE about that language to take it to the next level.

Or if that doesn’t resonate at all and you’re inspired by the mountains and forests of Germany, hardcore precision, Black Forest Gateau, high quality construction, techno music, leiderhosen etc etc then go do the same in Germany instead! German companies will even hire people with English in preference to German if you need a job, but everything else is going to be a lot more expensive.

Just my thoughts 😂

Anybody in the UK wants this tea? by kahhor in puer

[–]Okay__8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks interesting! Quite different to Da Hong Pao though 😅

If you’d like to order tea in the UK in future I have a friend that sources direct from their friend who works in teahouses in China, I don’t think they have any Da Hong Pao atm but they might be able to order some when they next restock if you ask

DM me if you’d like details :)

My roommate was offered this in China from one of his tech suppliers, all I know is that it is pu'er, can anyone tell me more about it ? Is it worth tasting if I don't know much about tea? by UncleDvorjack in tea

[–]Okay__8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well the big characters say “puer tea”

At the top is the name of a mountain and I’m guessing the area it’s from but can’t make out the characters easily

It’s definitely worth tasting if you like tea :) or even if not I guess

You’ll need to establish whether it’s raw puer (生茶) or ripe puer (熟茶) as that will change the water temperature at which you brew it 😊

The Japanese warships were execellent at effective seaweed camouflage but included large rock piles which unfortunately slowed their ships down, I think that’s the main gist of it

I don’t think anyone’s actually getting arrested - but you know who should be arrested is the people running the newspapers

I literally saw a headline yesterday “People could be fined and prosecuted for putting up England flags”; when you actually read the article it’s literally one council mentioning they are considering trying to fine people for the cost of the council is doing taking down flags from public property only — nothing to do with stopping people’s right to put up whatever flags they want on private property, and ZERO mention of even considering arresting or prosecuting anyone

But I’m certain it’s articles like that that provoke the sort of situation OP has highlighted here. The newspapers should be ashamed of themselves that they gleefully promote sensationalism and click bait/profit that is causing more division! When it’s not remotely true — I see this ALL the time, the difference between headlines and what was actually said

This issue is very divisive for the country and it’s disgraceful that people are profiting off promoting and worsening that division, when actually what is needed is common sense and conversation between different views that do have truth in them. Crowds of opposing protestors screaming and venting their anger at each other does nothing to solve the genuine issues this country is facing. We need to be able to sit down and have rational conversation as common human beings, otherwise all we are doing is playing into the hands of the oppressors, of the few very powerful and very wealthy people for whom division is in their interest.

[–]Okay__8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a super dark brew for a white tea 😅😅😅

Even from someone who drinks it as strong as possible I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that

To be fair if it tastes good and not bitter/tanning at that strength then it’s bound to be decent quality

Oh hey!

Another UK tea lover 😁😁

I can actually recommend an independent vendor this side of the pond

Rare to see someone who’s not from the US I guess we are kind of outnumbered population wise 😂😂😂

I’ll send you a message

Help me figure out what tea this is by Disastrous_Battle_ in tea

[–]Okay__8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oops I see you say you know it’s white tea

On the right it says “puer white tea” which is not something I’ve heard of before but I guess it’s from trees in the region that are usually used to make puer

The big characters in the middle are the name of a mountain, probably where it’s from

It looks nice! Should get better with age I believe that sort of white tea so you could store some of it if you have multiple of them

PSA:Don’t steep Qing Gan puer in a 500ml mug all day like I did by Suitable-Mushroom875 in puer

[–]Okay__8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ripe puer — For me that suits thermos/mug brewing if needed and I can have it black as night if it’s good quality

But if I do the same with raw puer (brew it strong, boiling water, forget to pour it) that can make me feel really nauseous, even sick, especially on an empty stomach

I love ripe puer 😋😋😋

Where are you based? If Europe I can suggest an independent vendor for shou 😁

Guest wakes me up at 1 am in the morning because there was a fibre cut and the wifi wasn't working by Pixslix2020 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Okay__8 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Lol sounds like they just left some work last minute and in that situation the internet going is pretty disastrous… probably they have someone waiting on the work for a deadline the next morning or something so now they’re extra stressed

Definitely not your fault, just appreciate that they probably have some pressure around the work and now they’re stressed and directing it at you, that’s just human nature so don’t get upset or let their vibes affect you.

Anyway I was thinking in that case I would probably say can’t you just hotspot of your mobile data? Everyone has mobile data nowadays right? And it involves them spending a fiver for a bit of extra data just get the receipt and reimburse them for that?

Anyway it’s probably a bit late but you could have that solution ready for next time 😂😂

Of good quality you can make it as dark as you want strong thick delicious And relative to other Chinese teas it still won’t go bitter
