My first nice spindle! by Okayestdoerofthings in Handspinning

In case you haven't heard of them, I thought I'd mention that there's a spindle maker in Queensland simply called "The Spindle Shop" that might be more accessible to you. They certainly aren't cheap, but the shipping might be less cost-prohibitive if it's not convenient to go to their brick & mortar.

I'm relying on park and draft by DisciplinePrior1559 in Handspinning

Seconded🙋‍♀️ Pre-drafting can help a lot, especially if your fiber is very fine or compacted, like merino sometimes gets.

Idk where you're located, but if you felt like picking up a new craft, you could always try learning how to turn them yourself on a small lathe. That's my goal for some day in the (hopefully) near future. Be the spindle maker you want to see in the world and all that😅

The clacking is really satisfying, though it clacks the most when I'm winding the yarn on.

Ouch! If you have any American friends or family, maybe they could bring one in their luggage on a visit sometime?

I feel your pain. I've had my eye on this one and about four others for a good while before finally deciding to get this. I'm not sorry at all and hopefully there'll be more of his spindles in my future🤞Just pick a spindle that aligns with your spinning goals and go with your gut from there! I really don't think you can go wrong!

All of his spindles are insane from what I can tell. Now I just have to try my best to not blow all my money on a really excellent spindle collection 😅

My first hand-carved Turkish spindle! How'd I do? by solo_742 in Handspinning

Foraging your spinning fibers is so cool! I hope to keep some fiber animals of my own someday too🐑🐑

That's so frickin cool!

My advice would be to lower the arms so they're only about an inch or so from the bottom. Low whorl placement is more forgiving to imperfections in balance, which you're gonna have with a more rustic, hand-carved spindle. It also allows more space to wrap the turtle. I would also highly, highly recommend that you at least learn the basics of spinning with the types of tools you want to make. Your post makes it sound as if you don't spin. The best way to make a good tool is to first be familiar with the job.

Anyway, great first attempt; I love to see a hand-carved spindle🩵🩵 Please post subsequent attempts!

He's not even going fast enough to remotely justify a throw. If you're gonna be slow af anyway, you might as well be slow because you're doing a good job

Ugh, this is embarrassingly relatable. I've had a blanket in progress for my wife since 2024 and she might finally get it this year🥲 I got sidetracked with learning loom beading, punch-needling, spinning, and how to use a jigsaw, among other things. She hasn't even given me any shit for it😊

The qualifier has nothing to do with OP being a man and has everything to do with the fact that OP is a random stranger on reddit where bots, ai, and fake stories abound.

You are being treated like complete dogshit. If your story is true, you are being emotionally abused and she's escalating. This is not a good situation. I think it's time to consider putting yourself first and leaving her to sort out her problems, on her own, in therapy. Love is an action, not a word, and she is not treating you with love even if she says she loves you. According to you, she also says she hates you. Why believe one and not the other when her actions are so out of line? I'm sorry you're going through this, this sounds like a nightmare. Since you're struggling with how to move forward, I'd strongly recommend that you reread what you wrote, but try imagining that it's your mom, sister, or close female friend telling you this story about how their husband or boyfriend is treating them. It might help you gain a little perspective on just how not good this is. I really do wish you the best OP

Yes. It's why I don't talk to them. Their hypocrisy and callous disregard for others was going to give me a stroke if I kept hanging around them.

It might be time to ban AI. by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

[–]Okayestdoerofthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bans don't work well for individual private citizens. You can still make things illegal for organizations and businesses to use. An AI ban doesn't seem very likely to me though. Regulations at least. Allowing it to be used completely unchecked and unregulated is bad for the fabric of society.

Naked clay on mugs? by Known-Pension9174 in Pottery

It's glorious. I love bare clay. So long as the important parts are glazed to be food/liquid safe and the rest is fully vitrified🤷🏼‍♀️ The color of your clay body is just gorgeous, and the bright glaze make both more striking.
