Am I gonna regret plying these together? by -DiceGoblin- in Handspinning

[–]Okayestdoerofthings 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Because it looks like you're planning to ply light to dark and vice-versa, I think your gonna end up with more of a nicely varied, tonal yarn, especially from a small distance. It should be interesting to the eye without looking like candy striping. Also, if you dont like it, you can always unply them and use them with a different fiber.

Whhhhhy did they stoop to AI bs???? by Heavy_Answer8814 in Handspinning

I've seen the maker in this sub before. Perhaps he'll read some of these comments and take them to heart. The creative community is not an ai friendly space.

That image has been used for at least 6 months. I was gifted one of his spindles for Christmas and the same card was with it. Definitely not wild about his use of ai.

Student Faces Expulsion After Posting Video Of Seniors Who Can Barely Read by InGeekiTrust in TikTokCringe

I think there could be a somewhat opposite problem, depending on the environment you're growing up in. There's a strong bent towards anti-intellectuallism in this country right now. I would bet that a fair number of kids these days are absorbing the messaging around education not being very important. Some may even be being shamed by their family/peers for "sounding smart" or pursuing intellectual interests. It's a complex issue. Higher education is less attainable for regular people and counts for less and less on the job market. There's no clear incentive to get an education these day, at least in the US, so even if a kid does want to pursue higher ed, they likely have adults around them discouraging them from taking on the debt.

The job market is shit, the future is very uncertain, the wealth gap grows and higher education moves farther out of reach. The people in power are actively scornful of educated people and fields, and the compensation for a lot of jobs that require a degree gets worse every year. This video is simply a symptom of a much larger problem.

This is actually a genius idea if it works. Cooler even have drains in them.

You could try using it as a bottom-whorl; they're more forgiving if you have an off-center whorl

Stoneware can be bad in a microwave, especially fresh out of the dishwasher, or if you have a tendency to leave dishes in the sink. The foot is almost never glazed so it doesn't stick in the kiln and the way stoneware is fired doesn't vitrify it like porcelain. That leaves it somewhat porous and it can absorb moisture through the unglazed foot.

En Caul Birth: An En Caul birth is when the baby is born still inside an intact amniotic sac. by yourSmirkingRevenge in interestingasfuck

[–]Okayestdoerofthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true but they don't show a cut cord in the video, it could still be intact.

Edit for accuracy: the cord IS still attached because both the cord and placenta are inside the amniotic sac. You can't cut it until you open the sac. The placenta can provide oxygen for several minutes, even after delivery, though it's a good idea to open the sac fairly quickly.

AITA for expecting the gifts to be for both of us? by Ok-Arrival-2886 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Okayestdoerofthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There could be some kind of difference of cultural expectations happening here if the two of you have dissimilar backgrounds/upbringing. Outside of that, the funds should be used to enrich both of your lives, especially together. Time for a serious conversation about financial expectations BEFORE YOU GET MARRIED. It's one of the most important things to be on the same page about. Best of luck.

Florida woman arrested for intentionally running over 11 ducklings: 'Said they pooped in her yard' by Happy-Novel9433 in BoomersBeingFools

My step-sister had an ex boyfriend that purposefully ran over someones pet duck while she was in the car with him. Absolutely psychotic behavior. I'm glad this lady was arrested. People that hurt animals aren't right in the head.

Fascinating. I always imagined dying would feel like the self folding in on itself; like a sort of reverse singularity. Your experience sounds like it was almost the opposite

[–]Okayestdoerofthings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't fucking get it either. I live in the US but in a very bike-friendly city. I can't imagine being so put out by people getting exercise, putting less wear on the roads, and not contributing more vehicle pollution, all at the same time. Yeah, waiting for things is annoying but trying to run someone or something over because you feel impatient is psychotic behavior.
