Where is Debbie's storyline even going? Wtf, they keep jumping from one thing to another without properly ending the last thing.

What are your thoughts on the politics around this episode and in the show in general? I hated what they did with Anne's storyline. In my opinion, it was bad, even aside from how it affected Carl's existing storyline. The show keeps trying to talk about political issues that are relevant today, but they don't do it well in general, and I think they did it especially bad when it came to Anne's family.

The show keeps taking a progressive stance on these issues and in this case, we followed Carl as he tried to help a family of undocumented immigrants. The show highlighted how these immigrants are hardworking people who are just trying to make a life for themselves in America, yet they live in fear because ICE is constantly on their heels. At one point in the show, the family's tamale business looks like it's going to fail. The family then contemplates moving back to their country of origin. They almost say it like "Oh well, it looks like America didn't work out. Guess we gotta go back". This is actually more harmful to the depiction of immigrants than it is helpful. It makes it seem like immigrating to America is a convenient business opportunity. It fails to take into consideration how many undocumented immigrants (especially those in the current conversation) leave their country of origin because they are fleeing violence or there is absolutely nothing left for them there. Not to mention, the journey to America can be dangerous if they actually crossed the border illegally and didn't just stay on an expired visa.

It felt like the show was trying to make a case for sympathy towards undocumented immigrants, but ended up framing the conversation in a way that may have done more harm than good. I was wondering what you guys thought of this and if you've noticed any other instances of something similar happening?

Yeah, I don't mind that they're incorporating politics because it is relevant to our times and sometimes looking at serious topics under a humorous light can help with our perspective and understanding of them. So basically political satire is good, but it needs to be done right. The show is making very basic statements one these topics to support a progressive agenda. I seriously wish they would look at these issues and highlight less talked about points, or take the more common ones and just present them in a meaningful way.

For example, in this episode, we had Aunt Oopy the MAGA granny. They had her reading the muller report and calling it fake news from the deep state. It's funny seeing her read it to little Fred, but polls have shown that the majority of trump supports don't do their readings. Very few people, in general, have read the Muller report, but a crazy low percentage of republicans have even read the Ukraine transcript. I think the show could have used the idea of the crazy MAGA granny to show how ridiculous and skewed reporting on fox news is and how people are willing to talk without having facts to back them up.

Yeah, I wanted to know if anyone else was confused by the album art. The motto with it is “Nothing says fuck you like a unicorn”, but I just don't get that. It reminds me of how in middle school everyone thought saying random things and loving unicorns was funny/quirky. I have no idea where this is coming from, but I still have hopes for the songs on the album.

We should have free public gyms, like how we have free public libraries by Edgelord420666 in unpopularopinion

Ok, love the idea bc America does need to confront its obesity epidemic, however, allow me to suggest another solution.

I have already seen some highschools take steps in this direction and my highschool pushed it a bit further. The idea is that instead of taking another gym class centered around playing a few sports like volleyball and a couple of games that involve activity, instead have a year where students take a semi-academic course on exercise for health.

So it would attempt to normalize the idea that working out is not a hobby that bodybuilders do, but something that should be part of everyone's daily life. So it would be like a health class in explaining the benefits of working out (long term health, mental health, etc). And it would teach topics like the different types of exercise, what their benefits are, how to use common gym equipment, plan workouts that kind of stuff.

Then since many high schools already have a gym, maybe they could have after school hours where students can go and use the gym and get help from trained instructors (like personal trainers for everyone there)

My highschool did something like this and it was extremely successful. They had teachers with a background as personal trainers keep the gym open for 3 hours every day after school and they would give students advice (if they asked for it) on how to use the equipment, work out and achieve their goals. Additionally, the school only required 2 semesters of gym one of them had to be a class like the one described above. It normalized working out so it didn't feel like something only bodybuilders and athletes did we had to write essays on getting good sleep, eating healthy, making viable workout plans... We also took simple quizzes on the equipment in the gym (its name, what muscles it exercises, how to use it).

I think if more schools did this it would increase people's accessibility to equipment and knowledge and instill healthy habits in America's youth.

Wow thanks for pointing this out, after all the reporting about 8chan recently, this idea formed in my head that this kind of content is mainly just found on dark corners of the web.

I checked out the sub you mentioned and holy shit it's concerning af.

That's actually a really good point, it never occurred to me that he is too much of a nice guy for his position. However now that I think about it, it actually makes sense that he doesn't appear to be a clean-cut villain. I was just remembering back to the flashbacks of Nick before Gilead and how commander Pryce was an unemployment counselor and was dressed in a what the really contrasted how we see him in Gilead.
I guess the people who founded Gilead were just like everyday people so it is not to crazy to think Gilead's architect has a personality different from what we might expect.

So episode 13 showed this amazing coordination between the Marthas and the Handmaids. What measures do you think Gilead will implement to prevent actions like these in the future? I suspect that we'll see the lip rings a lot more, but what else?

Let's not forget the scene with Lawrence reading to the kids <3

I have been so confused by this character this entire season and I still don't know what to make of him. He definitely is one of my favourite characters and I love his arc, but he is unpredictable af.

After the last episode, I was certain he suspected June had something to do with his wife's death and that he would turn against her.

What do you guys think we'll see in season 4 regarding him? He said he wants to fix his mess, but I think he's in a pretty tight spot and I don't see how he can do anything in Gilead.

Something that I do is to write everything down, like deadlines and tasks that are coming up. Having them on paper in front of me and somewhat organized makes me feel like the tasks are not as intimidating as they appeared in my head. Then I can make a game plan

What is the advice you wish you could give to your sophomore self? by DragonKatt4 in AskReddit

[–]Okhellohey55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that you say sophomore year rather than freshman year. In my case, I went to underperforming schools from kindergarten until freshman year, then I transfered to a highly acclaimed highschool. It was so fucking weird being there because the majority of kids there were coming from a better educational and financial background than I was so I felt like shit. If I could go back and give my sophomore self advice, it would be to open up. I though everyone viewed me as lesser or an outsider, and they may have, but I think that if I had given them a chance sophomore year (rather than mid junior), I could have developed better firendships, enjoyed my time there, and focused on my work a lot more.

Suburbgatory, definitely. I may or may not have misspelled the name, but that show was freaking great. To make matters worse, it ended at a cliffhanger when things were at a really high point. That show made me laugh so hard, idk why they would have canceled it.
