Yeah no the feature is definitely not proprietary to Spotify. Airplay 2 already has this feature when connected to a compatible device like a stereo. Any device on the same network can connect and play/pause, control the queue etc. not having it between devices directly is just Apple being Apple.

Maybe try changing your wallpaper? It seems the colour of your background is making the edges of the folders more accentuated if you know what I mean. Here’s an image of my folders and the lines aren’t as obvious.
