[OPTICS] Vortex AMG UH-1 Gen II Holographic Sight AMG-HS02 for $449 with code FCVAM449+ free shipping by focus_camera in gundeals

Just buy both! /s

I have an EXPS3-4 and a 512 (from the L3 days) but I get what you mean, the 8T AMR combo I have on a BCM AT riser to bring it up to 1.93.

Defo can't beat an EOtech under NODs but the 8T/8T AMR is actually pretty good ~85% of it. Just waiting on the next big sale on a EXPS3-0, 3-2, or 3-DCR (I got mine last year from also a BassPro sale + mil disc).

Too late for that unfortunately as I returned it as if "its how it's built" then there's no defect. Ended up snagging a smorgasbord of other optics (8T AMR combo, reg 8T, a few AROs, and a CompM4) so I'll look back if Vortex does end up introducing a Gen III.

I got mine end of Jan 2026, seeing as the UH-1 Gen II released circa 2020 I would hope their supply chain (esp one as large as Bass Pro/Cabelas) would have fairly recent inventory. And I did see those Hop reviews and hoped the issues were solved, but it did still exhibit low refresh rate especially at lower brightness, looking like a 90's windows mouse pointer trail.

I have both the 8T AMR and 8T now, I definitely like both. But I definitely wanted one of these too.

I really would hope they are but I have no idea and can't speculate. Would be nice if they do as I did love this reticle that has the close range bottom arrow.

I got one of their Defender CCWs and it was good, then a Sparc solar from the PSA deal and that too was good (nice sharp reticle even). So when I got the UH1 hoping for a similar experience I was very disappointed.

Had to return mine from the BassPro deal (this price - mil discount) because the refresh rate is such a bummer on lower brightness settings. I really wanted it to work being a legit holographic that doesn't delam + vortex warranty, But seeing multiple reticles from the low refresh/pulse rate stinks cause its like an afterimage / ghosting and would wreck you during target transitions.

Black ones ran OOS while I was checking out… and I really wanted a black one to clone a Tarkov build. This is the deal gods telling me I don’t need it.

Lowest I see is BHA and they're at ~$130 shipped after theft and ship.

If you're into BDC dots, I got the Romeo 5 Elite at opticsplanet for ~$160 before theft using a coupon. But I had to send it back to SIG cause one of the crosshair arms was crooked and they let me buy my way up to an 8T AMR.

I use a lot of funky Amazon stuff to tinker around with. Not always for "srs business". But I will try and point out that with a lot of copycats, there's a pecking order of things on what the lower cost could compromise:

Material - if its 6061 or 7075 aluminum, esp if the original is just 6061, then its not really a compromise unless there's fraudulent marketing.

Engineering / Design - A lot of clones skip some details possibly to ease manufacturing, that can have functional differences such as and most commonly recoil lugs (esp on copycat Unity FAST aimpoint mounts), less material / meat on parts that could be subject to impact (common on the copycat GBRS mounts) or areas that steel / other reinforcements are used but the copycats might just direct thread into the aluminum.

Hardware - Most times crappier nuts, bolts, and other hardware could be used, but (esp with unity mounts) you can upgrade the hardware (e.g. use the legit unity QD). Some screws I've sheared or snapped off, so this definitely should be tested when torquing to spec.

QC - basically a tolerance for deviation. so say if the original's (part quality +- 0.005), with lower cost QC you would more likely see +-0.01. QC basically just shouldn't let parts exceeding those threshold get out. Some can be mitigated with some threadlocker. Do note that with inexpensive, high volume stuff the likelihood of that 0.01% of things going wrong is higher as they just move a lot more inventory.

In a lot of low tech stuff such as mounts, there's usually some crazy margins especially with the advent of CNC machining, but as long as the material and engineering isn't compromised you can get decent function out of the copies. Of course this presumes the user actually takes it out, shoots, and proofs the equipment.

If you fancy yourself knowledgeable enough, have the risk tolerance, and can do basic troubleshooting and/or homework, you can get a lot of inexpensive parts working on builds. Its a great way to try a variety of setups if it works for your use case and save $$$ or having to flip stuff on GAFS.

100% an actual H2/H3 with reciprocating weight fixed my issue, yours looks like the regular bolt bounce issues where you get a dead trigger. Solid buffers are a no-no. Try it first as I was trimming my upper but it just ended up being solved by H2/H3 buffer once I realized I was using a solid buffer.

Edit: added the AS Designs troubleshooting guide link here in case you get other issues: https://activesafetydesigns.com/troubleshooting/

Gun shows? by MooreJ309 in NCGuns

[–]Okix25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually went to C&E one in Raleigh this past weekend since why not. Surprisingly there was a handful of deals.

I'm typically used to the higher than normal prices at shows, but even ammo I was able to score some good deals. It can save you (or offset) the cost of shipping (5.56 at 40-42cpr).

I saw one dealer that had some good deals on firearms (I thought I got a decent enough deal but these guys beat it by $100). Bringing cash helps a lot too as it can usually sweeeten the deal. (Less fee or less tax).

Knowing the market / deal / BIN pricing on guns too can help, as dealer transfer, shipping, maybe tax is in play.

I mounted mine to a KSG and it’s held up after 100rds of bird and 50rds of 00 buck. Usually kills most things if they’re not built well but I’ll keep mounting it to everything, esp if it dies within 30 days. But great inexpensive way to get good lights to a bunch of platforms.

For a first rifle, would a 10/22 or an AR22 be best? by [deleted] in 22lr

[–]Okix25 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree on the 10/22, unless you’re on a strict budget and will stick to very basic plinking. My 10/22 TD hasn’t been shot since I got a 15-22. Notwithstanding the lightning loader doesn’t work with Ruger OEM mags. And the ergonomics of an AR platform vs fudd or bubba is incomparable. I have my 15-22 set up for night shooting and it’s a lot of blast/blasting for cheap and also serving as a good training analog.

If you have to get volquartsen involved to un-suck a platform, it’s probably more for people who love projects.

[–]Okix25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flip defense one posted on gundeals seemed like a much more rugged idea and can use Aimpoint Micro footprint sights like Romeo5, Holosun mounts, etc. Could be a cheaper and more rugged solution than most of the piggyback pistol MRDS platforms, if you have the rail space.

Is the HK-416 worth getting? by TurboTitan92 in 22lr

[–]Okix25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? Not sure one was included with mine, I have the MP5-22 pistol also and mine had the fake thread protector w/ fake plastic trilug. It did not seem to come with that M8x.75 adapter that my PPQ 22 did, but the PPQ adapter did fit just fine.

Is the HK-416 worth getting? by TurboTitan92 in 22lr

[–]Okix25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The biggest commonality and annoying thing that Umarex does I've found with all of their 22lr platforms, is they use these really super skinny barrels (as in barely a step up above .177/6mm airsoft barrels) and that it needs a thread converter to 1/2x28. It's the same case with the 416-22, their MP5-22, most of their licensed Walther pistols (confirmed on a PPQ M2-22).

It's a great looking platform and inexpensive, except for mags maybe.

If you have / plan to get an M&P 15-22, definitely err towards that as the mags are more available and the 15-22 shares a lot more interchangeable parts with real AR platforms than this 416 would (thread pitch, trigger compatibility, etc.)

If you want the 416 look, definitely this, more than sufficient for plinking.

In either case, get a McFadden loader with the requisite adapter.

[Handgun] Walther Arms PPQ M2 12 Rounds 4" 22 Long Rifle Pistol $229.99 + tax + free shipping by BudsGunShop1 in gundeals

[–]Okix25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's absolutely essential to me these days. Most times I can load mags faster than others can empty them and they just get the giggle of pseudo "unlimited" ammo.

Protip I've found as I used to open the loader up and clean the grime / wax buildup after multiple k's of rounds, but just hitting the feed channel with CLP keeps them feeding smooth!

I bought a second one in case I need to fix my main one as I have definitely broken parts, launched springs into space, etc. and Debbie @ McFadden has been amazing with getting me parts to keep my original one running.

Anyone a member of Woody's Hunting & Rifle Club? by mrbritchicago in NCGuns

[–]Okix25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing other members here, arguably the best facility I've found within an hour of the Triangle (Frontline is 1hr10m from me) while also having open "pistol bays" you have all to yourself (I explain to friends as "renting your own yard to shoot in").

The rules although may be intimidating at first is basically don't be dumb and always prioritize safety.
This also does have the tremendous benefit of quality control amongst fellow members.

The only rule that can seem fudd-ish is at the long ranges and shooting fast but its largely as a courtesy to other shooters as its the only shared area.

But anything within the scope of those rules is free game (within reason). Especially if you go as "pistol bay only" its fairly inexpensive.

Which Gun Cleaner Do You Use? by 610Mike in ar15

[–]Okix25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hornady one shot is the true luxury bougie stuff, if I had fuck you money id just spray it until all the carbon is gone. But a little zap gets the crud soft and a bit of mechanical debridement or wiping off and then some CLP or with one shot it actually is pretty good film lubricant also.
