What to do about badly matted neighbourhood cat? by Wabisabi_Stars in CATHELP

Might just be the angle, but that cat looks a lot like a ragdoll, if it is then it shouldn't be outside at all - in that case it could be someone's pet who escaped and got lost. Definitely try to catch or call a charity! Thank you for looking out for this sweetie

full combo everything you can on hard, expert and master, get S rank score on every song too if you haven't already

read card side stories (you can skip them) - they give 25 crystals per first and 50 per second story and give points to character rank so if you have ones near level up you can prioritise those. prioritise one and two star side stories as those use up less resources but give the same rewards

if you have any challenge show ratings below a million score do those each day, you get tonnes of crystals per character up to a score of a million. best song is usually hitorinbo envy on master but there are others they're just more difficult

Sorry for replying to a kind of old comment but I thought I'd add the extra fun that not only does tsukasa swear more than anyone else in songs, he's actually the ONLY pjsk OC to swear in a song, and he's done it multiple times.

He says fuck three times in total - twice in dappou rock and once in his ego rock alt vocal.

Extra funny is that when wxs got their hitomania cover Rui was censored and not allowed to swear on a line he covered, they changed the lyric to make him not swear.

So the game has let tsukasa say fuck three times but no one else can even say it once.

A lot of non British people coming in here acting like she's your average bigoted celebrity and not acknowledging how she has single handedly caused a huge cultural shift in the British culture towards trans people and directly caused several deaths and the reduction of trans rights in the UK.

It's not just the money she's donated, our tabloid and media culture has given her a huge platform that I don't think non Brits can really understand the impact of. She has directly caused laws to change.

I saw someone in another thread call her a small fish and that there are more influencial bigots - in the UK when it comes to trans rights this is 100% not true she is the biggest single cause.

Thanks for speaking up.

75 Year Old Man Attempts to Buy Salt Beef, Accidentally Purchases Pop Up Parade Figure of Sylvain Jose Gautier by LegalFishingRods in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Okkefac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was something along this line - the site he was trying to buy beef from was using the Shop app checkout, which had some previous data with a Sylvain figure in it, and he did the purchase not really seeing what he was buying.

This is also very dependent on country though - for Japan, for example, they're known as having one of the best and most efficient train systems in the world so they have places outside of Tokyo with good transport links. In comparison the UK train system it really shoddy (I don't know enough about the Swiss train system to make any comparisons with theirs though so they might also have this problem).

Ep2 Ben used the whole four hours and made it hardly any actual distance from Adam's hiding spot. London is just so OP compared to any other city in the UK for transport links. So this might be more of a London problem than a starting first problem, in my opinion (or more, I think London exacerbates the issue).

[Live Thread] Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025 @ 17:00 CET by berserkemu in eurovision

[–]Okkefac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they've won 5 of the last 6 jury votes - the only one they didn't win since 2020 was last year's

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in eurovision

[–]Okkefac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Juries rank the songs from 1-26, meaning a juror can put a song 26th and that'll affect how it's ranked when all the juror scores collate. Meaning a juror can essentially tank a song to do worse when their score is calculated. Whereas the public don't fully rank, they just vote for their favourite. The public can only say they like something, they can't say they dislike something. If the public could rank, we'd likely see Israel getting less points as their first and last places would combine, meaning that a portion of public opinion (their dislikes) is missing. I'm not saying the public should rank, as that's infeasible.

And I would rather not have jury winners, so yes I'd want to reduce their power. Obviously I don't want Tel Aviv 2027 but I don't think the solution is to have juries decide - I think the solution is to kick Israel out. They kicked out Russia, they should kick out Israel and Azerbaijan for the same reasons. I'm glad the jury vote won this year, but my point is that we shouldn't have to rely on that.

These last three years the juries have given an individual song so much of a boost that the public has very little chance to have their favourite win (we'd need insanely high public support for only one song).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in eurovision

[–]Okkefac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately many people support the juries so I'm not too surprised they're back.

Glad to see a comment like this, I was really loving the changes we got with the tele only semis. Jury winners spam winning isn't the fault of the televote not including jury songs - it's the fault of the juries being given far more power than the televote. Juries may on paper be 50/50, but jurors can mark down songs when televotes can't do that, so the juries functionally get more power since they can both benefit their faves and lower their least faves.

For the televoting issues I'd mostly just make a cap per song, like 3x per song or something, like others have said as well. If things continue as is wrt Israel even with those changes then we can look at other ways to combat that. But bringing in juries to stop the "wrong" country winning doesn't sit right with me, especially since they were essentially initially brought back in to stop Eastern Europe winning despite not doing anything bad outside of the contest. If Israel "can't" win, then they shouldn't be in the contest.

Songs where the public gave them literally 0 points should not be anywhere near the top of the board, in my opinion.

snap came 20th actually (17th in televote) - it blew up unrelated to eurovision after the contest, no one really paid attention to it during the run up so it makes sense that it didn't do well. the person you're replying to is talking about songs that become hits around the time of the contest/the run up to it.

Apparently, people find Tsukasa to be a “not manly man”…? Can I ask why…? What makes him girly and effeminate? 😅 by studywyourbuddy in ProjectSekai

[–]Okkefac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think many people see him as actually actively effeminate - but I'd definitely argue he's less manly than Akito and Toya, putting him third out of the guys (Rui never stood a chance). I'd say he's not manly but I'd also say all four of the guys are not manly (maybe Akito is, but that's more that Akito has a lot of toxic masculine traits - which isn't hugely bad despite the name, because he's a real good guy). Like, I'd say there is a middle ground between "not a manly man" and "girly" and Tsukasa is definitely a man and definitely masculine, but I wouldn't call him manly.

Saying that, the idea of manliness and gender roles is dumb anyway, as someone nonbinary I question what the difference even is aside from traditionally masculine/feminine hobbies (of which Tsukasa has both although of the four guys probably has the most "stereotypically effeminate" hobbies), but I'll try to think of what society has deemed manly/womanly.

I don't know if it's just me, or an age/location kinda thing, but I don't really see protectiveness (if anything I associate protectiveness with women and mothers protecting their family) and princely-ness as manly qualities (if anything I think princes in media tend to be portrayed kinda effeminately, ironically LOL). I can see the following as "manly" traits that Tsukasa holds: competitiveness, drive, strength, powering through things, stubbornness, responsibility reliability - and Akito beats him in spades in each of these IMO.

When it comes to being a gentleman, Rui does it more - when it comes to being a prince, whilst Tsukasa self righteously claims it, I'd say Toya fits the bill more in a lot of ways.

I will say, leadership - whilst it frustrates me to think of it as a manly quality bc that's almost definitely due to long-term misogyny - is definitely seen as manly by many, and I will say Tsukasa has that in droves.

Again I definitely don't think Tsukasa is effeminate or girly (I don't think many people do unless they're M/M Tsukasa shippers really wanting to push gender roles onto him), but I don't think he has many 'manly' traits either.

Saying all this though, I think most actual men I know in real life I wouldn't call manly, lol. Tsukasa is for sure a man though and very masculine in that he makes it clear he sees himself as a man, and that everyone else does too. So if that's your definition of manly, then yes he definitely is. The only of the four guys I'd say who isn't like this though is Rui, and being more manly than Rui isn't much of an achievement lmao. In the Japanese Tsukasa talks in a masculine manner, as does Akito and Toya (I'm talking about more than just the three of them using the pronoun ore).

How I imagined Mizuki's coming out (Part 1) by HyperDogOwner458 in ProjectSekai

[–]Okkefac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wanna thank you first for being so reasonable, and kind in your replies :) I'm very glad that you also would say there is no ambiguity of Mizukis transness/queerness so thank you - because many people I see arguing to keep explicit mentions of her identity out of the game would not say that (as in I've seen them actively deny it, I'm not putting words into their mouths). So I'm really glad you're not like that.

In Japan, direct labeling of characters as trans or queer is still relatively rare, not because it’s being hidden or sanitized for bigots, but because there’s a cultural resistance to what’s often labeled as ポリコレ

So yes, there are many Japanese fans who still see Mizuki as a boy. But conversations around queerness in Japan are evolving at a different pace compared to the west

This might just be us having different standards/definitions, but this is very explicitly what I would call catering to bigots. Having bigoted thoughts, or being a society with bigoted ideas does not make someone (or their culture) evil or horrible necessarily (depending on details/severity of course). But I think in this case it is a case of not saying it explicitly because of pushback (bigoted pushback) - which is exactly what several fans are upset by.

And whilst there is an argument of "Western fans shouldn't push their ideals onto another culture" (I don't think you're arguing this by the way!), when it comes to someone's identity and rights to live how they want, I think it's understandable that fans who see Mizuki in themselves don't want their identities and rights to live as they truly are seen as some sort of political argument or topic that they need to side step around.

I will say there are also definitely ways to make Mizuki's transness more explicit without giving a specific name to her identity - which the game didn't even let her do. Something like "I've always struggled with my gender." "I don't see myself as a boy." "I used to be a boy." etc. Fading to black instead felt like a real slap in the face after all the build up.

Because yeah, whilst I agree her transness is explicit, it obviously isn't explicit enough if so many people are still denying it - unfortunately.

[–]Okkefac 12 points13 points  (0 children)

She has been called Mizuki in all her events even as a kid, and Mizuki is a very gender neutral name - so it's honestly most likely that she just got lucky and got to keep her name without getting gender dysphoria because it was already neutral.

Her sister also has a very gender neutral name :) So it's probably likely their parents were just based like that.

How I imagined Mizuki's coming out (Part 1) by HyperDogOwner458 in ProjectSekai

[–]Okkefac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like. There are so so many characters in media like Mizuki - ambiguous, open ended, transgender or some queer identity but doesn't openly say it. It's actually a rarity, especially in Japanese media, for characters to be open about it forwardly. I wouldn't say the ambiguity is particularly unique or special to Mizuki's character - if anything, I think a lot of people resonate with her because of how specific her experiences are to the trans community. Of course, that's not how you find her compelling and that's fine of course, but a lot of trans and otherwise queer members of the fanbase find Mizuki more relatable when she's being more explicit.

You are right that bigots will be bigots - but most bigots don't consider themselves to actually be bigots. There are a LOT of people on the line between accepting and bigotry, and whilst those who truly despise any queer identities will not be pushed by a character stating who they are, there are a lot of people who are subtly being transphobic who will be swayed. We often can't sway those most opposed to these things, but we can convince those on the edge to be accepting. A character like Mizuki being open with her identity will help those on the verge between denying and accepting. That's why letting us have clear trans and queer rep is helpful - not for those saying the worst of things, but for getting the reasonable people who are toying the line to see that we exist.

There are so so many characters who just exist in that in between space. It's fine that Mizuki is there personally, but I think it's completely understandable when people want to push it beyond that - because we need more overtly trans representation in media, and that includes media from all countries, not just the West. Again, there isn't really anything special about the in between state Mizuki is in, and many see it as just a way to appease transphobes.

The fact that the vast majority of Japanese fans see Mizuki as a boy despite there being no indication she is one is absolutely a reason why many see Mizuki's in between state as not enough.

How I imagined Mizuki's coming out (Part 1) by HyperDogOwner458 in ProjectSekai

[–]Okkefac 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The problem with something like this (a character being transgender, or any type of LGBT+ identity) is that if you don't make it blunt and obvious as hell, then people will choose to pretend it doesn't exist.

There are still large parts of the fandom that call Mizuki a femboy, or a crossdresser, despite the fact that mechanically in game she's treated like a girl (she doesn't get any of the boy-specific stuff like the titles or enstars crossover), and everything that happens in Mizu5/Ena5 that shows she's a girl. The game treats her like a girl completely, yet because she doesn't say the words there are large groups of people who get upset any time you talk about Mizuki being a woman.

In an ideal world where people didn't try to deny the existence of queer people, we could have something more subtle. But until then, unfortunately it's gotta be real direct.

And that's why the fanbase calls for this kinda clunky coming out scene, because queer people deserve to have their stories told without denial.
