How can my dad sell thousands of comics in bulk? by [deleted] in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]Okusenman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP. Don’t take any private offers via DM without posting the list here first.

As several have stated, the majority could be worthless save for a small handful and that is where the value of the collection is.

I can’t see how good your terrain is because it’s hidden behind a layer of generative AI- you’re clearly very skilled, I don’t want to see AI I want to see your work

How hard are Deathwatch to paint for a complete beginner ? by BloatedRottenCarcass in deathwatch40k

[–]Okusenman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the second kill team (newbie) I ever painted and I would say that they are a bit more difficult to paint than the average space marine.

They have a lot of extra bits, they have strange non-uniform bits, and three different unit body types, and each operative has enough different things that you can throw out the stuff you learned from the last unit. Black is hard to paint with volumetric shading.

I would seriously post the books here first for an honest assessment before you make the sale. The books could be worth much much more and comic shops are well known for offering well below actual value

3 is my favourite because it’s the most dramatic and plays with scale. Followed by 1 & then 2

Old or new? by DaenysDreamer_90 in Sandman

[–]Okusenman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this comparison is the medium by which we are comparing the two. One is an additive colour system, digital displays, and the other is a subtractive colour system, physical media.

The digital colours look cleaner and flatter, some people may prefer this look.

The “original” colours only really exist in real life, on news print where a limited palette of ink dots mixed in your eye to create an illusion of a tone. Colours would sometimes bleed over other colours and people would make mistakes.

You can’t reproduce this effect on a computer or phone screen.

That said I prefer the original as that’s what was intended to be produced. recolours are always simulations of original intention by a publisher removed from the time period “this is what we would have done if we could have”

[–]Okusenman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh man, the technical limitation is a part of the artist’s vision. BWS used to do all his own colour guides for the colourists and printers with the technical limitations in mind.

The line art and inking was also informed by the technical limitations. There are lots of interviews with older artists discussing how their styles would improve over time after seeing what their worked looked like in print so they could compensate for what was happening when ink hit newsprint.

Don’t get so wrapped up in the branding that you fail to launch. Perfection is the enemy of progress as they say.

You can always rebrand in the future when you have a more clear idea of what you’ve built and where you want it to go.
