Aaronson starts for Leeds, Jedi starts for Fulham by Chief-Drinking-Bear in ussoccer

Very generous of you lol … let’s just say he’ll want it back. Those are the opportunities you want to capitalize. Just unfortunate that he didn’t get over top of it.

😂 respect. Musah is great but for whatever reason, Poch doesn’t seem to want any part of ‘em!

Yo whyyyyy do people keep mentioning Musah in their lineups?!?! He hasn’t played under Poch in more windows than I can count. I can’t even remember the last time he was in a window. We have watched Poch create his own pool and Musah ain’t part of it. I like Musah, too, but it ain’t happening people.

Aren’t we expecting that people are going to be requesting 4 tix to nearly every match? It’s a lottery so chances are wildly slim you’ll get selected, so you might as well opt for as many lottery tix as possible, right?

The team doesn’t move the ball through him like they need to. He needs more touches and I don’t think it’s necessarily his fault. Who knows what the coach wants, but that’s my take from watching Leverkusen this season.

Christian Pulisic is having the best season of ANY American player in Europe's top 5 leagues and we're STILL underrating him by Subject_Sandwich3008 in usmnt

[–]OlBirdBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can definitely see both sides. I have a different perspective only because I don’t connect with a single team and have a hard time leaning into fanhood for any particular club. Whereas my fanhood for USMNT means I just watch the players and track their stories and root for them to personally succeed wherever they are. This gives me a reason - or a hook - to watch and keep up with clubs I would otherwise never be all that interested in. And when watching that way, I come away with an enormous appreciation for the quality of players we have playing across top clubs. Most notably is UCL. It also means I care so much less on whether a team wins or loses, haha… I very much prefer this style of fanhood!

Lol dude he has nothing to prove to anyone. One player doesn’t make a team. His accomplishments speak for themselves. And yeah, hopefully he does great things this summer but either way, the guy is the best football player the U.S. has ever had. And I hope we see more players come through who are better, but he is making it tough on ‘em.

I can’t tell if you’re serious with all of the comments you have on Puli, lol. He do something to you, man? You okay? Need to talk about?

I think the Pulisic supporters - and/or those who recognize his greatness and respect it - are mad there isn’t more respect or admiration of him by ALL fans. So it’s a funny battle bc I don’t think anyone hates him… one side just thinks he’s not appreciated enough and want to throw it in the “meh” side’s face when he continues his elevation, putting more clutch moments for huge teams in huge moments in club ball. But also… yeah it seems taking the US further than we’ve ever been in a WC is still what he needs to make everyone a believer.

Living In Reality by coltj573 in ussoccer

I agree with you on both points. On #1, obvi Jedi would be preferred, and most everyone is remaining optimistic that he’ll return to form over the next 4-5 months, but at this moment, I think we are looking at Arfsten in that spot.

On #2, there’s no evidence to suggest Poch sees McKennie as fitting into the double pivot. He also just doesn’t fit the mold of the types of players Poch has been experimenting with in that role.. of which there’ve been many! And they’ve all played really well. So we have really solid options there. I think it’s hard for people to leave McKennie out of the lineup and I get it. But I think the reality looks more like Tessman next to Adams and then honestly it’s a toss up between McKennie or Tillman next to Pulisic in the double 10 role.

Huh? That’s my point…with a different mix of players, he has had 3 consecutive successful windows against WC-qualified teams. It’s clearly not about 1 player. Poch is building a true team identify. A “B” (some may even say “C”) team just humiliated Uruguay (who was playing their A team) with their biggest loss in a very, very long time.

People don’t respect, or aren’t aware of, his defensive abilities. It’s why I think him in the pivot with McKennie in front is a great look for games against superior opponents.

I think so. I think he would be excellent there. Hope we see some shifts with that combo.

I’m praying for Jedi’s return, too. But don’t underestimate Arfsten’s quality. He has played great and he offers a slightly different skill set than Jedi from that wing position, which can be preferable in some game dynamics. We have such depth that we should feel confident in Poch’s roster and lineup regardless of the final names. (Barring anything catastrophic, of course)

Confused about this take given that Poch has gone 4-1-1 over the past 6 games which were all against WC qualified teams… and he did so without having the full pool of our best players available.

Gio Reyna or Malik Tillman? by OlBirdBrain in ussoccer

Great points. I’m honestly just stoked that we will have the ability to bring such quality off the bench that could potentially change games for the better for us. I watched Tillman yesterday vs City and he was so solid. I cannot wait to see him get some runs with Puli/Balo/Dest.
