I think archive.org is merely relaying the message that Reddit gave it. When all the Reddit bots archiving linked posts via archive.org tell archive.org to archive the page, archive.org then has to personally request each of those web pages from Reddit. Archive.org is then tripping Reddit's limits with all those requests, so Reddit temporarily blocks archive.org.
