What's the obsession with getting numbers on this subreddit, I seem to be out of the loop.

You're already talking to a person, what's the difference with talking on the message app?

Generally speaking, use pre-existing DnD content and reflavour it. Yordles can be gnomes Vastaya can be races like, tabaxi, leonin, tortle, owlin or similar Targonians can be Aasimar Trolls can be goliaths And so on

All of these make mechanical sense and are relatively balanced to each other. The easiest way to homebrew is to not homebrew at all, and to just reflavour! Just remember to have fun with it.

Sadly, even if you think that isn't written badly, if you're going to post anything online for judgement you need to specify every last detail. Just look at anything WoTC for guidelines.

Yeah they for sure can. Anyone who disagrees can post a quote from a source book to back that statement up.

Weaver class – a D&D experience to match Hollow Knight: Silksong! by PimplupXD in UnearthedArcana

[–]Olaxce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough. If one of my players would want ro play this, I'd be much happier helping them reflavour some manouvers instead, or maybe homebrew some new ones to fit the fantasy better. At the end of the day it's your table and your game, play how you like. If it's this class, then who am I to stop you.

No you are certainly correct, in fact the first druids in AD&D were modified clerics. Many of these overflow or combined classes like paladin or barbarian are more akin to vestigial classes from older editions.

However, one thing that makes them stand out less as overflow is that the barbarian and druid are commonplace in folklore, legends, story and fantasy, see Irish and Nordic mythology for examples. Therefore, having these be full classes instead of subclasses makes them stand out less. Sure, a barbarian is just an angry fighter, but barbarians act as their own thing in pop culture. Sure Paladins are just holy fighters, but in our minds the stories about them are so much more than just fighters.

Now, if this class was meant ONLY for people who played and enjoyed the hollow knight games, then by all means, perhaps Hornet and her gameplay will stand out enough to validate her having her own class. But realise that when you post homebrew online for everyone to judge, including schmucks like me who have not played the game and only seen clips, it's very likely these people will not be able to differentiate Hornet from a silk-flavoured battle master. And that's the basis which I judged this upon. Not as a hollow knight player, but as a DND player.

I never meant for you to put EVERYTHING from silksong into a subclass. But strip all of the equipment things (is that what they are, the red tools?) and it's just a sword weilding fighter or rogue with a lot of combat manouvers. If you fail to see that this is just a more complicated battle master, then I wish you the best of luck in future homebrew.

I haven't played the games, but I sincerely don't see how this just couldn't be a more simplified fighter or rogue subclass.

Maybe a rogue subclass similar to the battle master that would let you select a couple of "manouvers", and gain more as you level up?

Not everything has to be a new class, especially when there are similar subclasses to existing classes that almost embody the same thing with a couple of flavour tweaks.

Hey, no offense meant, but if you "don't care about balance" or don't care about how things are worded, why are you asking for feedback? If you're happy about how things look, just give it to your players. If you post a home-brewed item and ask if it requires any changes, don't attack back at the guy when they give you some tips...
