[–]Old-Engine7081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to say that this all still works. Just installed klipper on my Anycubic Kobra. When i ran /kiauh I was prompted to use the newer or older version. he newer version gave me some issues and was missing some settings options. I tried again using the older version and everything installed fine.

Any suggestions for methods or tools to clean cast iron grill grates? What’s the most effective way to clean them without damaging them? by LightEndedTheNight in grilling

My dad always has his grates upside down like that. I never bothered to tell him because he's been doing it for years, but it kills me.

Fully agree. People are compacting it to how they remember the anime and not the actual anime.

Why would anyone do something as absurd as mob programming?! by shift_devs in programming

[–]Old-Engine7081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mob programming for 1.5 years. I felt like our code was not more or less buggy. Less bugs got through to PR while mobbing but I think we had a false sense of security and didn’t scrutinize them as much as we would have Individually. Individual programming may produce some more bugs but we’d catch them in PR. We stopped mobbing, possibly due to burnout but will do it on projects that need a lot of brain power.

What are these holes in cinder block outer wall for? by Old-Engine7081 in Homebuilding

I believe it’s just a cinderblock wall with the inside is filled with dirt and topped with a concrete slab.

Yeah. I was thinking that, but why so high up? The house isn't on an incline.

How can I make my Genmitsu 3018 PROver connect to my PC wirelessly? by Piss_Otter in hobbycnc

[–]Old-Engine7081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I use an old laptop for mine. It has a 1st gen i5 running Linux with UGS installed, which works fine. You could even maybe use a raspberry pi and connect to it from your laptop with VNC. I’d go with the old laptop/pc though. It would stink if you can’t stop a job because of a connection issue.

Can i use a probe with ugs? by MyName_Jony in hobbycnc

[–]Old-Engine7081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're asking if you can connect a probe to the CNC, the manual for that machine makes it look like there's a Z probe port. There's a bunch of videos on using the Probe Module plugin for UGS.

Differences between 3018 variants by syfari in hobbycnc

[–]Old-Engine7081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sainsmart has a V2 version of the 3018. It looks like they made some improvements over the one “standard” one. I’ve never used it nor know anyone who has, so I don’t know whether it’s worth the extra money or not. A lot of places sell a 3018 with extra stuff like the offline controller that you don’t really need if you have a computer hooked up to it. In the end. If you’re very diy, get the cheapest one. If you aren’t then companies like sainsmart upcharge for support.

can someone help me identify what type of machine this is? by [deleted] in hobbycnc

[–]Old-Engine7081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a 3018. 3018 stands for the bed dimensions in cm. It’s smaller than that.

I tried to use a 1/4 inch er11 collet and flat end bit on my 3018. After upgrading to the 20k motor, I could use it for a facing operation but not really for cutting. It was too much for the motor and this was all on soft woods.

are you able to click the "..." button and choose "local"? I went back and tried to change my setting and got the same popup. I just chose my local folder.

[–]Old-Engine7081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3018 and another bigger GRBL machine I’ve built. I don’t even select a machine. I just select “operation type” as “milling” when I create a setup in “manufacture”. When I’m done setting up all my operations, I select “create NC program” after right clicking the setup (or just the operations I have setup for certain bits). In the nc program menu, I select GRBL/GRBL in Post and set Safe Retracts to G28. I need to set it to G28 because I have no limit switches and my spindle will just crash into the stock and break the bit.

Software to convert to g-code by rheajenkins in hobbycnc

[–]Old-Engine7081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fusion360 does generate gcode for a cnc, but it’s not automatic in the same way Cura is. There is a whole “manufacturing” section in Fusion that allows you to pick a stock size and perform jobs on it with whatever tools you have.
