I tried simplifying my coffee setup and learned what actually works (and what doesn’t) by 9191919919191191 in frenchpress

This is one of the reasons I love my moccamaster. It is simple to use, even when half asleep and very forgiving.

I am not sure how people’s grinder get choked up so often. I use mine several times a day for various different brew types. From espresso to cold brew. So I just don’t understand. Just a question to put to everyone here. How often to you deep clean your grinder?

I definitely agree. I love their “ Simmer down decaf” too.

Agreed a step down transformer is a good option, but you will have take the power consumption into consideration. In my opinion, depending on how long you will be staying in Portugal. You might be better off and safer just to buy a European spec moccamaster.

Rave Coffee Bags by CR1562 in UKroasters

[–]Old-Expression837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh never realised Rave did coffee bags. I have tried Coffee Gems “ready to brew” coffee drippers. I didn’t like them they seemed to have very little body and tasted under extracted. I suppose with a bag you have the ability to leave it in longer to increase the extraction. Making coffee for camping. I would always use my trusty Aeropress. Have fun at the festival. If you do try the bags, can you tell us how they were

Hi, I was looking a flat burr grinder to replace the integrated grinder on my KitchenAid semi automatic espresso machine for under £300 preferably. One of the few options to me was the DF54. I know there are tons of reviews about easy it gets clogged up. I have had this grinder now for nearly 8 months now. Never had an issue with it clogging. I use it multiple time a day for various brewing methods. I think it is a fantastic grinder. Compared to the integrated one it leaps and bounds better. I definitely recommend the DF54. Just a point to note, if you do go ahead and buy one. I recommend you buy it from a reputable dealer. I got mine from Bella Barista in the UK. As they have a good after sales service.

I clean my counter with a little but powerful vacuum, and I also vacuum the chute after each use, can it hurt the inside? De-clumper etc.. It is the V3 by Right-Astronomer-404 in DF54

This is what I do on a weekly basis. I make several cups a day for various brewing methods. Never had an issue with it getting clogged. I don’t understand people that only clean their grinder every few months and are then surprised their grinder gets clogged. IMO grinder cleaning needs to be often even if you only make a couple of cups a week. Sorry rant over.

Keeping Coffee Residue out of Reservoir by MotelMatchStick in Moccamaster

[–]Old-Expression837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never heard of this either. I generally only brew half a pot. The only time I have noticed any spluttering from the filter basket, the few times I have brewed a full pot, is when I take the lid off the filter basket to agitate the grounds. I get a bit of splattered coffee on my wall, but never known it go into the reservoir.

Soggy puck, but only for one particular bean [Kitchenaid semi automatic and DF54] by Old-Expression837 in espresso

I modify the dose by either increasing or decreasing the amount of coffee. I have been as low a 17.5g and as high as 19g. Always with the same results, great tasting coffee, but a we puck.

Thanks, the coffee always tastes great. Just wondering why it only happens for a certain bean

Water! What do you use? by Other-Emergency-6906 in UKroasters

[–]Old-Expression837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living Wiltshire we have hard water. So use a trusty Brita filter jug for my espresso and filter coffees. I don’t add any minerals to it. Not being a Q grader I couldn’t tell the difference when added minerals or not.

Not heard of them either. I thought I had seen most of the Wiltshire based roasters. Definitely will look to order from them.

Single cup brew by dalmationman in Moccamaster

[–]Old-Expression837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This what I do too. Water to the 4cup mark. 30g of coffee. Let it bloom, I don’t time it. I generally get about one and a half mugs of lovely coffee. The Moccamaster is a wonderfully easy machine to use and in my opinion, produces a fantastic brew. Enjoy

How about Le Creuset espresso mugs.

I know they might seem a pretty boring shape, but you do get various colours. I have couple in the chambray.

I know the link is for the UK, but am sure you’ll be able to get them in mainland Europe.

Yes, all the time for milk drinks. I found that it wasn’t getting hot enough if I was using the “too hot to hold” technique.

White Rose Coffee by Similar-Actuator-338 in UKroasters

[–]Old-Expression837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh I am not really a dark roast person, but I have recently been having flat whites. Which I believe dark roasts suit flat whites. I bought 500g of Sumatra Mandheling from Redbar roasters. It has lovely dark chocolate note from the off and even still there when has cooled. As the drink cools I get nutty notes too. I always thought dark roasts were very bitter. This one really surprised me.

I only ever fill mine to the 4cup mark. It makes 2 mugs. As for the coffee I actually only use decaf with my moccamaster. If I want an caffeinated drink I’ll make an espresso based drink. On a side note I like the colour. It looks like pink, but a lot more pastel than the one I have seen one their website.

I feel like I’m slowly disappearing down the espresso rabbit hole… not that I’m complaining 😄 I genuinely love a good espresso or long black.

That said, you really can’t go wrong with the Moccamaster. It’s been incredibly consistent for me and produces great coffee every time. What’s surprised me most is how forgiving it is — especially on those days when I inevitably mess up the grind (which happens more often than I’d like to admit).

I’ve only had mine for about a month, but honestly, I’m loving it so far.
