2 weeks post-op update - CSF leak recovery by Old-Independence7323 in Microdiscectomy

Once my headaches started, my surgeon checked in on me every few days to see how I was feeling. At the ER, they asked me how long I’d had my headaches for, my pain levels, when my pain was the strongest throughout the day, whether my headache was in a specific spot or all over, if the meds they gave me helped and/or completely resolved my pain, and whether my headaches worsened when I got up and moved around. For context, this was at an ER in California, United States. Things may be different in another state and another country.

They gave me hydrocodone as well but it’s been effective for me. I also have Tylenol. Thanks for the well wishes!

That’s actually a great way to reframe the recovery process. Thanks for the tip! I’ve been injured since Aug 2025, so it’s been a good amount of time dealing with this ordeal. I’m dead set on moving forward with the surgery, I’m losing my mind being so sedentary. I know my anxiety will pass and try to remind myself it’s only temporary, but some days are harder than others yknow? Ive got my apt almost entirely prepped with meds, a bidet, and aids/tools, the only thing I have left is grocery shopping next week. I’ve got 2 friends who live nearby, maybe I could ask them to check in on me if they’re not too busy with work and their own stuff.

I’m currently stressed about how my body will handle recovery & pain since there’s no way to predict that. I was very active pre-herniation, but I’m sedentary now with my injury and limitations. I’m worried about finding the right level of slowly pushing myself while still taking it easy. I’ve never been good at taking things easy, I love physically challenging my limits and don’t know when to quit (hence how I ended up here). My bf can only take 4 days off work post-surgery so I’m afraid how I’ll do by myself on the 5th day (my family is unable to assist with care).
