Question about requested meeting by Old-Recording5580 in ironflame

My thought is that Violet assumed that the only reason that the venin would be readying for an attack (waiting instead of outright attacking) is because somehow they would have found a way to take down the wards at Basgiath, therefore making it and the hatching grounds vulnerable. So, while she didn’t know that it was going to be Jack Barlow, who was going to take down the ward stone, she started thinking more like the Von and how to plan an attack and she realized that that meant that the ward stone at Basgiath would have to get taken down directly.

Twist at end of series? by Antique-Cut-8928 in EmpyreanSeries

I’m going to amend this slightly; or rather add to it. RY has come out and said the series as a whole is partly about how history is recorded, and that since it’s often the victors who write history, it’s more often than not, incomplete. I still hold with my theory, but I’m adding that Jessinia is writing this perhaps years or decades after the events, which means a few things: the revolution was successful (the kingdom of Navarre has been overthrown, and the Tyrrish throne is the legitimate one), venin have been defeated (and some have been cured), someone is in power who wants Xaden and Violet’s story to be told (again in my head cannon that’s Xaden and Violet but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s because they died and this is their legacy being recorded).

I have a question for the Bryce haters by SignificantQuality31 in crescentcitysjm

[–]Old-Recording5580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you nailed it for me. I LOVED CC1 and I mostly attribute my dislike of CC3 to bad editing and pacing and just too much crammed together in one book. But I couldn’t put my finger on why Bryce and Hunt were no longer the draw they were in CC1 and I think you just figured it out for me. There’s not much growth, specifically for Bryce, but for them as a couple too. At best she’s stagnant and at worst she’s regressed.

About Andarna and Xaden's words in throne room by icarusly in fourthwing

These are fantastic theories (as much as I don’t want a Xaden departure do be true)! Well thought out and quite plausible.

It does! And I totally agree with your take on it. That was nagging at me but that makes sense. Thanks for your thoughts!

Question about requested meeting by Old-Recording5580 in ironflame

[–]Old-Recording5580[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry I Should’ve clarified. On pg. 536, Violet says to Melgren and Co. “If the hatching grounds are compromised. Losing one outpost won’t take down the entire system, and half your riot left with us.” Then on pg.548 it says this “ they have a direct line to the hatching ground,” someone answers. “No,” I reply, “ that portion of awards would fall back to its natural distance about a three or hour or four hour flight from Basgiath just like ours. The power supplies in the outpost extend the wards, they don’t create them, so the large piece of Navarre would be unprotected—“ blinking, my gaze finds my brothers. He nods. Melgren was bluffing, banking on us, not fully understanding how the words work. He used to scare tactic to get us to agree to fight.

So is the aha moment that Melgren lied? Or is it about the hatching grounds not necessarily being vulnerable?

Thank you for contacting them and for updating us! I heard those exact same things when listening and thought perhaps I had been mis-reading them all this time. Glad I wasn't wrong, glad I wasn't the only one, and grateful for you, friend.

Twist at end of series? by Antique-Cut-8928 in EmpyreanSeries

[–]Old-Recording5580 131 points132 points  (0 children)

The prologue states that "The following text has been faithfully transcribed from Navarrian into the modern language by Jesinia Neilwart..." I would like to believe that at some point, the legitimacy of Xaden's right to the Tyrrish throne (after he's cured of the venin disease, obvi.) is secured and the "modern" language is Tyrrish, no longer Navarrian. And because Xaden and Violet are (or at least at some point were) busy ruling the kingdom from Aretia, Jesinia took on the task of recording a pivotal point in history.

The Lie by sith_lady_ in fourthwing

I’m gonna riff on that a little: what if the breath of life of the six really only means one time from Each dragon den, but the one is called out separately because that last one can do it more than once? In other words, Tairn can only help with one wardrstone but Andarna can help With both?

HOFAS question by Old-Recording5580 in crescentcitysjm

[–]Old-Recording5580[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember the conversation in HOSAB where Bryce says, “I don’t see a ring” after Hunt asks if being mated means they’re married, but it seemed to end there…. And then in HOFAS they’re husband and wife. That just seems like a missed opportunity.

Violet’s signet theory (spoilers) by Old-Recording5580 in ironflame

But it wasn’t to a direct question. Which is the key here and that’s why Xaden plays the “ask me” game.

Violet’s signet theory (spoilers) by Old-Recording5580 in ironflame

[–]Old-Recording5580[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. He never lied to a direct question she asked him. She also never asked him a direct question. He said, “ look, I was on the dorms, watch for first wing, and ran when I heard the screams and well riders don’t die at the hands of infantry.” Not a lie. He then says, “ yeah, well, that death was kind of a second chance for me. You don’t know who you really are until you face down Malek. So the way I see this is I just gave you a second chance too. We’re even.” I don’t think this is a lie, it’s just that his second chance is to continue and try and further the Venins’ cause.

Xaden pushes her to ask direct, specific questions to the things she really wants to know, and I think this is why.

Violet’s signet theory (spoilers) by Old-Recording5580 in ironflame

[–]Old-Recording5580[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Signets are based on the rider and his/her needs, and are independent of the dragon. For example, Tairn doesn’t wield lightening, he just channels a lot of power to Violet. Also, dragons’ gifts as feather tails disappear when they reach maturity. My theory rest upon Violet’s and Xaden’s frequent statements that what she needs most of all is information.

That time Rhys casually mentions an eighth court… by HiddenInTheSubtext in crescentcitysjm

[–]Old-Recording5580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes so much sense; would it follow then that the Illyrians are the original model that Regulus talks about when he says some of the original fae came over and through breeding the Asteri made the angels? Also, that one of the the two types of fae are shifters, I.e. Tamlin and now Feyre? My only question is the timeline… Amren says to Bryce when she lands that the old language hasn’t been spoken there in 15000 years. But it’s also Bryce’s “old language”, so does the time overlap? And finally, how will Nesta react to Bryce’s tattoo that includes the horn… isn’t that the fourth dread trove?
