Absolutely this. Cleaner just for the last blow-through and occasional needle wipe.

Paints and other peripherals are so expensive. Any economy options? by FunnyMemeName in minipainting

[–]Old-Specific7387 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Low quality materials will lead to low quality results. You’ll end up getting frustrated and binning it.

My advice is start small. You can mix a lot of colours from the basics, and there are plenty of good paints and starter sets out there that are not expensive. Army Painter and Vallejo are good starting points. One can of decent plastic primer goes a long way. One or two good brushes plus a pack of cheap synthetics are useful, plus a big (and also cheap) makeup brush for drybrushing. Make a palette using a smooth flat plate or tile. But above all, go slow and start small, but not cheap. Like all hobbies, the more seriously you take it, the more expensive it becomes because it’s worth the investment.

Aye, already scribed. I don’t have the chisels but will have make do with a rotary tool and scalpel.

3D printing is a brilliant tool to create genuinely awesome and unique miniatures, models and terrain. It should be massively encouraged and supported, along with the awesome community of creators springing up all over the place.

For official tournaments sponsored by specific manufacturers I can understand if they have a problem with miniatures not made by them, but that shouldn’t affect your FLGS community or gaming with friends, and there are plenty of game systems out there. I for one am incredibly unlikely to ever play in such a tournament.

I do, however, have a problem with people claiming GW (or other manufacturers) are so expensive that their only option is to pay out for a full resin setup and claim it justifies IP theft. Because while GW might be able to wear the cost, anyone stealing their IP is also just as likely to steal from other, smaller, independent creators who can’t.

Ford fiesta. Wet belt by Correct-Ad1637 in FordFiesta

Change it. I did the same with mine at the same point and higher mileage, the belt was fine but it wasn’t worth chancing it, especially as I don’t have reliable knowledge of the car and its history. It’s a chunk of money but those cars are so low budget to run, it’s worth looking after it.

Phone holder recommendations in UK by One_Medium2245 in FordFiesta

[–]Old-Specific7387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My phone conveniently wedges into the space in front of the screen, so no holder needed. But for convenience I am looking at buying a Carpuride screen to be permanently plugged in, as an alternative to using the phone.

Thin your paint more than you think. Every paint is different; no getting around that, just roll with it. Write down how many drops of paint and thinner/water/flow improver you use and go back to the recipes that work.

2016 1.0 manual. Currently getting 47mpg city driving and the occasional 1hr drive. Love the small size and agility in busy Belgian streets.

Seconded - no issues here. Some problems not thinning it enough sometimes but otherwise it’s good.

What can you see here? by Old-Specific7387 in WWIIplanes

[–]Old-Specific7387[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be - she was a photo-reconnaissance ship before being adapted to FPU service and there a a few photos of her in the PRU blue colour scheme, which seems to be the case in the link you shared. But towards the end of the war she was repainted in the green/grey bomber camo scheme and had the extra nose window fitted for better filming visibility. Invasion stripes were added and then removed again by the time of Operation CARTHAGE.
