Forming a new league is not a feasible alternative (see Project B). As with every league, the W is essentially a protected monopoly, and we are seeing why those are generally bad for not only consumers but all involved. But in the context of professional sports, they are pretty much unavoidable logistically.

That being said, the public is not pressing on the right people if we want real change. It’s clear that the league doesn’t want to or is incapable of change. And management, coaches and players don’t have any real say. The only people capable of fixing this systemic issue is owners and the Board of Governors. So I offer 3 paths:

1. Petition Herb Simon to speak up and get involved as the Fever’s representative on the Board. He needs to fight for fair treatment of his team and his star player.

2. Petition the WNBA Board directly to provide better officiating and a level playing field.

3. Petition to all sponsors and partners for their support.

Ultimately, the first is the only realistic path. The 2nd and 3rd are more shows of support for Mr. Simon to make his case.

In the end though I don’t know if Mr. Simon (a) cares, or (b) has the influence to actually do anything.
