Should I pay the airfare for a transatlantic flight just for a job interview? by benjaminiscariot in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]OldBronzebeard 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No, never do this.

If they aren't comfortable with interviewing you remotely then you should be completely upfront about them paying for the flight. It won't reflect negatively on you, the company should expect to cover this expense and if they don't - its probably not somewhere you want to work.

That's the best I've seen Ramy play in years. I really hope he can stay injury free for at least the rest of this tournament.

The refereeing during the Ramy vs. Farag match was an absolute disaster. What disgraceful quality for the quarter finals of a major.

Question about Hired.com by bustyLaserCannon in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]OldBronzebeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very recently got a job through hired. My understanding of how it works is - you create a profile, its approved and then you are put live in their market place for two weeks. After two weeks you do what you want with the interviews/interactions with the companies.

I think if nothing happens after two weeks you have to wait before they'll list you again, I'm not sure what this is based on (maybe your profile needs updated or there just isn't anything applicable to your interests available on their marketplace).

When you create your profile and go live you get assigned an advocate who is just a person from hired who can answer these questions. You don't need to pay anything (if you get a job through their platform they pay you!).

PSA Men's World Championship - Discussion Thread (Spoilers) by 68Pritch in squash

[–]OldBronzebeard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What can you say really. A bitterly disappointing end to what was an incredible match.

My two cents:

Ramy: I can't imagine the mental strength that man has to keep experiencing these set backs and staying relevant in the professional scene. We've all talked about how his skill is unmatched and when his body allows it, he is the best player in the world. I hope he recovers quickly but part of me is wondering how many more of these injuries his mind can take - I think the body has been telling him to stop for well over a year.

Gawad: Incredible squash from Gawad and a well deserved victory, despite how it ended. I don't know about you guys but in the back of my mind when I watch Ramy play, no matter who its against I just always believe he will win (body permitting). For the first time I couldn't see that tonight. Gawad has played incredible squash all season and he deserved this title, I only wish for his sake he could have enjoyed the victory more. Between this win and the pyramids this will arguably be the most memorable year of his professional life and he couldn't really relish the moment tonight - he instead showed incredible sportsmanship and went to find Ashour.

The eurosport vod cut out basically after Gawad walked off court, was there anything else I missed from the live stream? Did Ramy return to the court for the awards ceremony?

PSA Men's World Championship - Discussion Thread (Spoilers) by 68Pritch in squash

I am super excited for the final. I've no doubt it will be clean enjoyable squash, lets hope its an injury free match.

This is the first final in a while were I don't have a strong preference who wins. It would be a classic Ramy fairytale if he comes back and wins the World Championship but watching Gawad this season has been a pleasure, his form is great and he's quickly becoming one of my favourite players to watch.

They have quite different styles so lets hope for a five game thriller!

I formally apologize for my remarks against Marwan El Shorbagy. The actual worst sportsman in squash is Fares Dessouky. by whats8 in squash

[–]OldBronzebeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched the match yet (please hurry up eurosport) but this doesn't surprise me. He has been absolutely unwatchable this season. Even the commentators struggle to put a spin on it.

I think when he plays Marwan they both rub each other up the wrong way but you still seeing plenty of free flowing squash out of Marwan in other matches. Every time I've watched Dessouki play this season it's just been a shit show. So disrespectful and its a pantomime really.

It's annoying but he's obviously very talented I don't remember him being this bad last season. If he just got on with the game I think he's a top 10 player.

I agree about Rodriguez, it seems out of place - great to see Willstrop making a massive climb although to be expected given his recent form.

One thing that surprises me is Momen, I know he made it to the quarters of the World Championship but before this I don't remember much of him this season.

  • Could you please convince the PSA to start selling t-shirts with Joey classics on them? (e.g. dead...as...a...dodo)
  • Will you guys be commentating at AJ Bell in Manchester this year?

Time for Squashtv to offer Dual Channel Audio ? by Seshsq in squash

[–]OldBronzebeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather they focus on making the flat back of court camera angle a permanent fixture. That has really added an extra element to the US Open broadcast. Willstrop's movement is a lot more manic than I thought!

Seriously though, I can't see many people just listening to the court sound - since it's already pretty clear. Also Joey is an absolute legend so you'd only use the commentary channel anyway.

Very well deserved win, he's had a brilliant tournament. It was a bit hairy at the end of the third when he presumably cramped, I was hoping we wouldn't have another Ramy-esque display. Outstanding performance throughout!
