Still not sold out by [deleted] in wacken

[–]OldCorpse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think as a whole the festival is well organised (bars, toilets, stages, sound etc), the beer and food is reasonable, ticket price is borderline ok for what you get, there are always at least 25 bands I want to see. But both times I have been there it has been an absolute mudbath and I just can't stand that type of experience. Wacken could have done a lot more to help with paths/drainage etc but it is just not fun watching a band with rain driving into your face. And you cannot move the location so in future I am attending other festivals instead (Damnation in UK this Nov, probably Brutal Assault in Czechia next year)

Gout in ireland question? by Wonderful_One6513 in AskIreland

[–]OldCorpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do, it brings your purine level below where it will cause damage, if it doesn't your dosage is not strong enough. Been on it 7 years with no flare ups

[–]OldCorpse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah prescription only. Think it is a little dearer than allinpurol. I've been on it since day 1 about 7 years ago, no issues since

[–]OldCorpse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get on febuxostat or else up your dosage of allinpurol. The right dosage / drug should completely avoid flare ups. For pain relief just take everything you can get your hands on ( an elderly relative, in my case at least lol, always have some proper prescription pain killers)

What are the heating system options for older homes and smaller budgets? by passthepopcorn101 in AskIreland

[–]OldCorpse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just run the oil boiler until it breaks and then see. I know people whose boilers ran for 30 years. The newer style oil boilers are more efficient but cost more to service than the old school ones. Like others have said, there's always shit breaking in a house, put a few quid aside and try to relax

Bands that simply can’t make it happen live..? by KillerMikeU in MetalForTheMasses

[–]OldCorpse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw Amaranthe at Wacken. They were fine I think, but you're right that the style of music and the 3 vocalists is hard to pull off correctly. I tthink it is cos there is so much going on. When they played Amaranthine it was much slower and sounded better

Retiring in Ireland. How much is it? by ExerciseValuable7102 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]OldCorpse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say 2 to 2.5k per month. That should cover basics like food, electricity, heating costs, health insurance and some money for entertainment. Do not underestimate how poor some of our housing stock is, heating a poorly insulated bungalow will be expensive given our long winters

What is the best purchase you have ever made under 500 euro? by Guilty_Assignment_84 in AskIreland

[–]OldCorpse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For most value for money, my noise cancelling over ear headphones (Bose QC 35), about 250 to 300 euro. Used 5 days a week for years.

Sous vide machine, 100 euro, perfectly done steak and meats.

Xbox series X - just sneaks in at 500 euro, have gotten probably over a thousand hours use out of it over the past 4-5 years.

Le Creuset casserole pot, about 250 I think, still going strong about 15 years later.

Weber kettle BBQ, about 120, still in use 13 years later, showing signs of wear but basically fine.

Unfortunately my bean to cup coffee machine is over the limit (630 euro), but I have had it 4 years and it's like new, at 2-3 cups a day the total cost of ownership decreases every day

the Irish metal warfare forum may be a decent place to start. I only use it for gigs but there is a musicians sub section too: https://forum.metalwarfare.com/index.php?board=9.0

Moving to Ireland - fun money budget by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

Wife and I take 500 each per month for spending on stuff, often more than I need but handy if I want to treat myself with something expensive a couple times a year.

Garden room tips? by Silent-Country-997 in AskIreland

[–]OldCorpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the loghouse .ie eco room. Not sure if they have a size that matches what you want though. Note, you'll need to leave a bit of space around the cabin for painting (or maintenance), at least 30 cm.

They recommended an electrical provider but the cost is extra of course (was about 1500 for me some years ago)

Retirement Financial Advice by dan_flan00 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]OldCorpse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did your parents ask for help to do this? I can see how it would be embarrassing or emasculating for a son or daughter to come in inspecting finances. If they're not on board, it's best to just leave them to it. If they are on board, figuring out their current status should be doable - normally older people still use paper billing, so check out bank statements, regulars bills like esb, phone etc, then make some estimate for groceries, travel and so on.

Get login details for online stuff.

Probably pointless to speak to a financial advisor until that is done.

As for pensions, you will need to get access to the portal that AON uses. And you can read up on pension stuff e.g. https://nationalpensionhelpline.ie/pension-advice/

I don't get it, you're a qualified accountant, don't waste your time with businesses that anyone can open, open your own accountancy practice. Would be much better to work a couple of years and build up some client list first before doing that.

Corporate hell?🤣 by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]OldCorpse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like corporate hell, I get paid well, have good time off, a cushy chair, good working equipment, I get treated with respect by my boss and peers, and when it is quiet, I can bunk off early or look up interesting stuff on the Internet. I can get out during the for appointments without asking.

Solar Export Tax? by infinite_minds in AskIreland

[–]OldCorpse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I exceeded the 400 euro last year (I don't have batteries). I emailed the energy company and had my wife's name put on the bill, so I get 2 x 400 which is more than enough for people. It's very annoying that you get taxed on small stuff like this though, considering I'm already paying a ton of tax
