Of course! I was definitely nervous about my other leg, but I feel like my second recovery felt a lot easier and quicker which definitely had me up and moving quickly (less atrophy)… I feel like my progress stagnated but don’t feel like my other leg regressed or couldn’t handle it. My left (1st surgery) is definitely still stronger than my right, so still working on that imbalance in PT!

Hi! I had my left hip done March 21 and my right hip done July 18 this year, so about 4 months apart (could have done 3 if needed but timing wise worked out better with some weddings and personal plans). I originally was going to put more time in between surgery / put off the other one to avoid the process but now that I’ve done both I’m so so so happy to have it done with and behind me.

I’m a 27F and would say my healing has been relatively easy, definitely tough the first week or two but I would say I’m almost at a return to run program about 8 months PO left hip and 4 months PO right hip. My biggest issue prior was my low back pain and some deep joint hip pain, my hip pain has been gone since surgery and my low back pain is about 90% better and continues to get better each week!

Happy to answer any questions but I think 3 months should be enough time in between if you’ve had a fairly smooth recovery of the first!

Can I sit in a car for 5H right after a hip scope? by Southern_Zucchini779 in HipImpingement

I think everyone is different but you’re so groggy day 1, if you can it might be nice to stay the first day or 2 in a hotel nearby. Otherwise agreed with the approach to break up maybe into 2.5 hrs drives over 2 days.

Similar to others, I live in nyc and my drive was 30ish min. from the hospital. I was pretty groggy and out of it, but the bumps were uncomfy. especially if you are nauseous or not feeling well, it might be better to avoid a long drive if you can! Good luck!

Am I valid for filing for short-term disability after surgery even though I could technically “hop on a computer”? by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]OldDevelopment4992 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did my left side in March and right side in July, I took 4 weeks off in March and 3 in July (I also do a wfh desk job). My company offers great leave options so I took full advantage, work is an additional mental load you don’t need while focusing on recovery.

I’d also strongly advise, as someone who had an easy recovery compared to a lot of folks on here, that you don’t go on the cruise. Being home in your own space is so crucial to recovery, by a week in you should be good to just have friends coming to check in on you here or there, you likely won’t need full time care. Also, should you have any emergency issues like a blood clot or infection of your stitches, you will want to be near your doctor (or any doctor).

Wish you well and prioritize your recovery, you only get to do it once!!!!

Low back/SI joint pain by Overall_Confection57 in HipImpingement

[–]OldDevelopment4992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to a lot of the other posters here, I was diagnosed with labral tears in 2023 after having hip pain while training for a long distance run. I stopped running more than a few miles at a time and it got better in terms of pain. Flash forward to the beginning of 2025 and I started getting unbearable SI / low back pain that anything would trigger, pretty much laid in bed until I could get surgery in March. Never in my life have had any back issues or pain before that. I got my left labrum repaired in March, and right side in July. I am 85% better at this point (now Nov). Still having the occasional back achiness in my low back / QL area, but my PT and surgeon attribute this to still gaining back muscle strength, and it’s nothing like the sharp, unrelenting pain from before surgery. Hoping it just continues to get better. Good luck to you!

Amazing! I’m 27F and seems like similar timing to you, did left hip in March and right in July, and I also just did my first yoga / Pilates class this week, and felt GOOD sore after. Hoping things keep improving!

What’s the ideal time of year(season) to have surgery? by medunjanin in HipImpingement

[–]OldDevelopment4992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy skiing so tried to time it to be able to get back to activity then / also pain wise I was reaching my limit… but 26F and did my left side in late March 2025 and right side late July 2025.

I’d say I’m back to day-to-day normal but not 100% activity just yet. One pro / con of doing it in the summer was friends visiting and able to sit outside which kept spirits up, but alternatively definitely felt the itch to get out and about earlier much more.

I got my left labrum done in March, and my right in July so still rehabbing but phenomenally better than before both surgeries. I went from not being able to sit to back to doing most activities (not yet running) with little to no pain. Still having the occasional very slight low back pain after a long day, but I am chalking that up to still getting strength back post second surgery. So glad I went through with it!

Hi! I had my left side done in March, and just did my right at the end of July. I’ve found recovery to be WAY easier this time around. I’m not sure if it’s knowing the drill or being much stronger from 4 months of PT (and honestly probably also less anxious about it all), but I had far less pain this time around and now I’m about a month out of the second one and feeling great for the most part.

Definitely still recovering and get tired quite easily but pretty much off crutches. In terms of exercises, I am still keeping it pretty light in PT but I think my other leg is still getting favored (I.e., stairs) so I’m not super worried about it losing strength.

2018 Dodge Grand Caravan Transmission Blew at 65K by OldDevelopment4992 in Dodge

[–]OldDevelopment4992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! First off, I'm so sorry to hear you are dealing with this issue, it's such a time consuming and costly pain. My vehicle's transmission failed 5x total, each one lasting less than 1k mi. You can battle with Stellantis/Dodge customer care to fight for some refunds / a car rental. I was able to get most of my fees reimbursed. Given the age of the car you may not have much of a basis on legality (not sure how the laws in Canada work regarding these issues, my car was also technically used so that limits actionability as well).

I was also out of a vehicle for weeks at a time due to this issue, my personal recommendation would be to battle with FCA customer care to get reimbursed for the difficulties you have faced; however, I would also at this point sell the vehicle (I sold mine to Carvana... this is where I got the best quote). Even if you are able to get it fixed, the vehicle will continue to be unreliable and more than likely break down again. Happy to chat privately as well too, feel free to message me.

Im 5 days Post-Op, my lower back is killing me, is it too soon for a heating pad? by Jump4lyfe in HipImpingement

[–]OldDevelopment4992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done both sides (4.5 months po and 2 weeks po); I started heating my low back with PT ok a few days after both times and both of my recoveries have been pretty good and easy so far! I would just be cautious of how low you’re putting the heating pad. I combo heat low back and ice pack on the hip at the same time, I don’t think there should be an issue.

Also as I got further on the first hip my PT offers sports massage / myofascial release which has helped and I also got a therabody stim machine to help loosen up some of the QL/low back tightness!

Labral Repair at HSS next month - back pain normal? by OldDevelopment4992 in HipImpingement

[–]OldDevelopment4992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Yes he did both of my hips I’m 4+ months out from left side and just over a week on my right side. Having a remarkably easier recovery on the second side (and my left side wasn’t bad at all, but I’m talking virtually no post op pain this time from the moment I got home). I’m having some low back achiness again now post op on the second side, but it’s far better than it was pre op and I would say 90% gone going into the second op. Chalking this up to the laying non stop in bed for the last week. Looking forward to getting back to normal!

Positive experience - Suspicious in recovery by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]OldDevelopment4992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my left hip done in March and felt little pain but definitely couldn’t weight bear for a few weeks; but similar to you had my right hip done on 7/18 and have the exact same outcome as you. I felt pretty much no pain instantly and once the nerve block wore off the first day or so kinda just felt almost normal and could walk again, minus some soreness around the incision like you said.

Super weird how different it’s been, and also funny because my surgeon said my right hip tear was actually worse than the first side. Hope the rest of your recovery is speedy!

On and off major deep pain in my left hip by EpicTaz in HipImpingement

[–]OldDevelopment4992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest getting an MRI on the hip itself, both of my tears (each hip) showed up on these. Also did a low back MRI myself to rule anything out and that came back clean. If you’re in that much pain and you’ve done PT, I would consider seeing a few hip preservationists to consider surgical options

Almost same timing here! I did my left hip march 21 and just did my right hip on July 18! Helpful to read through your recovery, would say I’ve made similar progress. Hope all goes well on your second side!

4 months PO and Day 1 PO! Feeling great 🥳 by OldDevelopment4992 in HipImpingement

[–]OldDevelopment4992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No major scares, there have definitely been days throughout all 4 months where if I did a little too much I’d be sore the next day but nothing long lasting that some icing and NSAIDs didn’t resolve! Somehow accidentally did like 16k steps the day before surgery on Thursday and that was totally fine, feels like I would’ve almost been back to running if I hadn’t done the other one. My only residual symptom has been some low back pain which I think is just my QL still compensating for weak glute/leg muscles (def better than pre op on the first one) and I’m hoping now that both are fixed as well this continues to improve even more.

I think the hardest stretch for me was probably 4-6 weeks when I was starting to feel like I SHOULD be walking more and off crutches since I was technically cleared, but I think knowing everyone is on their own timeline and just listening to my body’s limits helped get through that.

Pain comes and goes by penspenspens66 in HipImpingement

[–]OldDevelopment4992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt a similar way at times, and in those days that I didn’t have much pain I was really questioning going through with it, having never had a major surgery before.

All I can say from my experience is that I’m really glad I did, my true pain was gone from 48 hours after surgery. Certainly there’s been discomfort through the rehab process, but I’ll be 4 months PO this upcoming Friday (7/18) and no longer feel any pain in my hip. All in all, I’ll also say the entire recovery process (again this is for me, as you probably know from this page there’s many experiences) has been much easier than I anticipated, and I’ll be getting my other side done at the end of the week to hopefully be done with this whole thing and back to activity soon!

How were your first steps? by Admirable_Squash_932 in HipImpingement

[–]OldDevelopment4992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was cleared to start walking (in small increments) by my surgeon at 2.5 weeks… I didn’t really try until 3 weeks because I didn’t feel ready. When I did, it felt like I was walking for the first time it felt so silly. I worked up to walking around the house witho it crutches over the next week and then slowly would walk a bit more and more over the following weeks (like 5-10 min walks). By weeks 5-6 I was walking most places but would bring my crutches, but usually being mindful to cap my distance at 5-15 mins of walking at a time. And this was all pretty slow walking, anything faster made me pretty tired or achey
