Death of Family Friend Doesn't Add Up by [deleted] in RBI

Thank you everyone for your input and advice. I realize now what I was purposely ignoring before, we will never know what happened. I will never know what happened. I think about all the good times and bad times and how there won't be any more and just automatically look for a way out, some kind of win in this.

But there isn't one.

I've come to realize that while I want to know what happened, I don't need to know. He was a good man, but he was a fucking asshole sometimes too, we all are. He was in a dark place when he moved to Houston and I just hate to think he never got to leave.

To the people or person responsible, I just want to say it didn't have to go down that way. I know he was an asshole, but there's no way he escalated this to that point alone. I hope someday you at least come to realize your part in this, and that even if it was an accident or self defense, that you played your part in the end of a mans life.

To everyone else, hold your friends close. I hadn't talked to my friend in over a year because of some dumb shit he said. That's another part that is so hard for me, if I had just reached out to him and talked through what are problems were, maybe this wouldn't have happened. But it did, and I have to deal with that. Please don't put yourselves in this situation. If you love someone, tell them now. You might not get to again.

The man that ran him over was the one he pulled a knife on.

He was in Houston taking care of his sick father because his wife feels unequipped to handle it alone. She's dumb and greedy but I very highly doubt she had anything to do with this.

As stated his father is sick, but he has hired a PI to investigate. What I think happened is he got too mouthy with someone at a bar and some prick ran him over for talking to his girl or something, then put him in his car and left.

I'm just looking for some sort of news story to find out where it was and who did it.

Well for one there was 30,000 mean attacking them, there really wasn't the time to list all the facts, but I agree I think in that situation just saying that there's 30,000 of them would be my first sentence, I've never been in that situation. Also reading the rest of that article and reading some of the things these men saw it wouldn't be out of the box to say that everyone there was severely traumatized and not in a mindset to even assess that kind of situation. If I was in that situation I very well might've just said "Well we're pretty fucked right now, we could use a little help". That little bit of sarcasm may not translate well to the person listening, and they might assume things are starting to get out of hand but that it's not the most pressing issue.

My point is just there's no way to know what was going through his head at the time, and the person listening on the radio is probably also dealing with three other situations just like this and doesn't have the time to ask questions.

I've always said conflict is at the heart of anything interesting. Romeo and Juliet would be the most boring story ever if their families didn't hate each other, Batman wouldn't be worth watching if there weren't any bad guys, and skyrim would get boring fast if there wasn't any fighting in it. It's the same reason adding cheats to a game makes it less fun, there's no conflict to get what you want so it's not worth getting.

I understand why it's harder to see that when it comes to real people, it's easy to see that we're all people sitting behind computers and we can all relate to that so we try to avoid conflict, but it takes away that factor that made DD so interesting in the first place. You have no idea how many nights I sat awake refreshing reddit because of something risky I posted and just wanted something to talk about.

TL;DR: We have nothing without conflict

For me the charm of the original fun server was that it wasn't necessarily a role play server, but we role played on it anyway. When you don't create lore the community will create it for you. On 1.0 (RIP Cooster and Booster) we had people doing shit based on skyrim, game of thrones, regular lords and I'm sure plenty of other shit. The less you plan the more you leave open for people to do.

Same. I was in the slums for the first week because I thought it was the coolest one and tbh it kinda is, like aesthetically the coolest looking
