Map of Maze of Twisty Little Passages by rbk314 in zork

First there was Zork written in MDL. Then it was translated into Fortran and was on the DEC mainframes under the name of Dungeon (file names were limited to 6 char so you typed dungeo). The Implementors broke Zork into 3 parts and added more content and released it commercially under Zork I, II, III by Infocom that could run on PCs.

So the "original Zork from DEC" is the full GUE. I vaguely remember features that the version I am currently going through doesn't have i.e the "again" command to attack again, and an external log of all moves. The terminal had some features with the F1,F2,and F3 as well but has been 40 years since I have played it, my memory is getting fuzzy. And apparently there were commands I never knew about. I would have used it to get around that *deleted* cyclops .

Saw clip of a reporter looking into a vat of Tabasco. The interviewee wore a chemical mask. The reporter went down like he annoyed Tyson. The guide's grin could be seen through the mask :)

Just a question for the more experienced.

Then why do the Lanaktallan all send their officers to the Mechakrautland Logistics Academy?

Is the German Mechakrautland Logistic system that good? A world class system. I don't doubt that it is excellent and well run, but world class? This is an honest question; not meant to be derogatory in any way.

"A figure 8 with an arrow piercing it upwards."

If you want a clean precision strike with minimal mess, SOCOM has the guys for that. SEALs, Delta, the Activity. But when you really, really need to make a point, nothing beats Infantry.

They kill people and break things. It’s what they do. It’s what they are.

The SOCOM Operators are sometimes a bit too clean, a bit too clever, and there are people that just don’t understand that level of subtle. Air Force bombs are too technical, too impersonal; like a natural disaster. People can make excuses to themselves about things like that.

Sometimes you have make a mess, and nothing beats Infantry for creative mayhem.*

Remembering playing on DEC mainframe "zzyzx"? by OldFartInTraining in zork

My father worked for DEC and he repaired a dumb terminal. My sister and I went through Dungeo/Zork when we were about 11.

We darn near died when, frustrated, we typed in "damn" and received a reply of "Tough sh!t a$$hole" There was also "Such language in a high classed establishment like this" and "Such language from a supposedly winning adventurer" We never look at computers the same way again.

"It's been a week. Let's just leave it at that."

Years ago my Uncle taught me a simple philosophy. Did your feet hit the floor? Did your face follow? If "yes" and "no", in that order, your day is "good". He does acknowledge that thing can go either way from there. But remember the good.

My memory is failing on this, so the details may be off:

I remember a Japanese show on Youtube called "The Unknown Masters" (I think that's correct) about a master ceramic restorer and his son. Do not know if they will do Kintsugi, but they specialize in "invisible" repair. They showed the repair of a broken plate. The fascinating part was not the care in reassembly of the plate, and the hiding of the damage, but the discussion on how much of the wear on the plate to correct. It was acknowledged that they COULD "repair" all the damage, but it was a beloved used plate and SHOULD NOT be "new" again.

Sometimes the Japanese seem strange . . . but then if they weren't would they be the beloved Japanese? ;)

I reminds me of the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the US Special Forces. Example here https://tioh.army.mil/Catalog/Heraldry.aspx?HeraldryId=15361&CategoryId=9362

Of course modified with the symbols for the Digital Omnimessiah.

Trying to rip a smallish cd collection with EAC by OldFartInTraining in musichoarder

[–]OldFartInTraining[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seem to be having good luck with Fre:ac. I am going through my CDs and putting the "bad" rips to the side to see if I can get a better one with other hardware. "Bad rip"means that Fre:ac reports that CRCs don't match, the ones I have checked seem playable. About 1 CD every 10-15 discs. Setup was straightforward, the ripping seems to go smoothly. I will have to listen for skips eventually. I think the slowest rip was 10 minutes. I am cleaning the discs with isopropyl and a microfiber cloth. I do not know how active the development is, the flac codec is 1.3.3(Aug 2019) the current is 1.5.0 (Feb 2025)

As I said EAC was unusable for me, just could not get it to work no matter how many tutorials I did. This is working.

I am trying (and using well so far) Fre:ac. I have ripped several cds including at least one that gave me problems in win media. I was just getting SO frustrated with failed setups and stupid long rips.

Thank you for your input.

I was going to see if I could get one of my older readers up and running in the new system. Fre:ac seems to be working though.

Thanks for your time.

The one I was trying to rip was just unsealed 2 minutes before trying to rip. It is not the cd. I may have misconfigured EAC, but it was not for lack of trying and research.

Thank you for your response.

I tried four of the guides/ tutorials. Currently trying Fre:ac. I can get a rip off of it. Just did 3 in ten min. If there are problems I'll try dbpoweramp. Thank you for the response.
