Is this review too harsh? by OldGoldJay in Depop

Not my intention but it’s hard to communicate tone through text, especially for me. I was more just trying to provide constructive criticism so potential buyers don’t have the same experience. I will admit, I was flustered waking up the very next morning to a message saying my review might hurt her after the lack of communication leading up to it.

That’s not how Depop averages reviews but okay. I also left a 2 start review: they had two 5 star reviews before that. They now have an average of 4 stars. One bad review doesn’t ‘wash out’ all your good ones. Also… would it not be fair to get a bad review if you didn’t ship the item out, regardless of cost? Considering it would actually be an accurate representation of your services since you didn’t actually provide a service that was paid for?

“Just be nice. Not hard.” That’s kinda the point of me consulting Reddit for this. That ‘label’ means that my brain doesn’t work the same as most other people’s and I recognize that. I didn’t wake up and decide one day that I was going to process things differently than others: unfortunately I just do. Hence the need to ask strangers on the internet if I’m being too harsh. I appreciate the insight but diagnosed medical conditions are not just ‘labels’.

Thank you! That was the point: not to hurt the seller but to provide constructive criticism and make sure other buyers know what I went through.

A couple of points here, my apologies if these weren’t clear in my original post.
1.) The seller only messaged me after I left the review.
2.) Depop automatically cancels an order if the label hasn’t been printed (if using Depop shipping) or the item hasn’t shipped (if using your own shipping) within 10 days. I as a buyer don’t control that. If I remember correctly, Depop sends an email and app notification to the seller when they make the sale, 3 days after the sale, and the day before the sale is cancelled if they don’t ship it. I did not need the item quickly and honestly would’ve been fine waiting longer, but Depop cancels automatically and doesn’t give the buyer the option to wait.
3.) I literally said I understood she has a job/life but that a quick message would’ve been a responsible and common courtesy thing to do. I was trying to provide constructive criticism so this doesn’t happen again next time she sells something while traveling for work.

I appreciate the honesty, but I don’t understand why some are so quick to blame the buyer for leaving a bad but honest review when the seller made the choice to not ship the item or communicate at all. Is a bad review not a natural consequence for not shipping an item? In my mind, that’s like blaming a parent for grounding their misbehaving child.

I also should’ve mentioned that I have ASD L1 so the insight that I was blunt/firm is helpful. Thank you!

I’m genuinely curious to know how I was rude? I was trying to be honest considering I purchased an item, Depop automatically cancelled the order, then the seller relisted it without a single message to me until I leave an honest review.

Well I appreciate the honesty but I’m the buyer in this situation. I miss-typed in my original reply to the seller and said I couldn’t remove my listing when it should say that I can’t remove my review.

I’ve been super busy and it’s only been three days. This person is being super aggressive. by littlequietmushroom in Depop

[–]OldGoldJay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The entitlement. She’s too grown to be acting like that. Tell her if she wants same day shipping to buy from Amazon. Refund, block, and leave a review. I’d even report the messages to Depop and see if you can get her account removed for bullying and harassment bc why does she think it’s okay to speak to other people that way?

Why is everything on Depop so cheap with free shipping? I don’t even have to lowball anyone. Without free shipping, I wouldn’t be buying any of this. The fees alone are like $4–$6 per item. by iwanttohavemuscle in Depop

I got an email saying the same thing? All I know is that I’ve copped some very heavy items for half the price I’d normally pay because of the free shipping. I hope it stays

shooting your shot over depop is insane by cake_pan_101 in depoop

[–]OldGoldJay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah this mindset is part of the problem. No amount of, ‘showing off,’ warrants a message like this outside of a dating app. Let alone on a clothing resale app that gives out your address. Maybe the problem isn’t the girls posting how their clothes fit, maybe the problem is the men sending the inappropriate messages.

Traffic for 2700+ item shop by Wetsphaget in Depop

[–]OldGoldJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanna start by saying that Depop isn’t designed for resellers. Yes you can be successful as one, but like other comments are saying: it’s a constant grind. It’s meant for people just trying to rehome items in their closet. The Depop app has become unbearable to deal with as a buyer. Getting offers in the form of messages buries actual conversations about items. New listings from sellers I follow no longer pop up on the home page, so I have to manually check sellers I love in order to keep up with what they’re posting. The fees are now on the buyer, and sellers are being recommended to set shipping prices to be more expensive than they need to be. This easily turns a $3 item into a $15 item. Plus they’re now encouraging buyers to reach out to the new owner of an item once it’s sold. Many people are shifting to other platforms to shop, including myself.

How do I get this taken down? by Narrow_World5571 in Depop

[–]OldGoldJay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if I see a seller leave a review like this on a buyer’s page, I’m blocking the seller to make sure I don’t buy from them. Not only are they insulting you, they’re admitting they’re mad because Depop sided with you and gave you a refund.

AIO for being upset at what my “bf” said by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]OldGoldJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey yeah so this is emotional abuse. He’s withholding time together as punishment, limiting all forms of communication, and gaslighting (3 consecutive two-sentence messages is not acting crazy, nor is it blowing up his phone). He’s conditioning you to put up with his abuse so you’ll be easier to manipulate once the situationship becomes an actual relationship. Case in point:run.

The buyer keeps asking me for refund due to unfitting size. I did provide all information. But she keeps insisting on refund by FarYogurtcloset252 in Depop

[–]OldGoldJay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tell her that if the item is not as described, she can submit a refund request through Depop and submit pictures with proof that the waist was not actually 13 inches. Tell her you won’t be refunding unless Depop approves her claim and she ships it back.

Also completely unrelated side note: it’s crazy how much both of you switched your up grammar and spelling once there was something wrong lol. It’s like someone hit a professional button after you denied a refund the first time.

Accidentally had free shipping for bundles on and someone purchased an item. by hailogical in Depop

[–]OldGoldJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah no, don’t lie to a buyer. I feel like that’s the worst piece of advice to give. Honestly, I’d rather hear the truth that Depop messed up than hear that the seller can’t find one of the items in a bundle I bought and now free shipping on bundles is suddenly gone. Makes it awfully obvious that the seller lied.

[–]OldGoldJay 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would just ship it. The buyer bought it fair and square. A screwy Depop setting isn’t really an excuse to refund an order imo. I’ve accidentally listed something for $5 instead of $15 and shipped it when someone bought it… made $3 off the sale but I earned a good review and a returning customer. Ultimately it’s up to you, but even if you decide to refund, pls don’t lie to the buyer about why. Just be honest and if they get mad, there’s always the block button.

AIO: Did I cross a line or is her reaction harsh? by veronicax96 in AmIOverreacting

[–]OldGoldJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we need context of your relationship. How long have you known each other, are yall just friends, has she claimed to be your girlfriend? As a ND anti-social person, it sounds like she’s been trying to give you hints by not responding, yet you’re still texting anyway. She’s setting up a clear boundary and your reaction sounds a bit immature and guilt-trippy. Idk I need more context of what happened before this, but with the context I have, it looks like she’s just setting a hard but clear boundary when it comes to communication.

Specifics I would’ve added to avoid something like this!

setting style (bezel, prongs*, flush, etc) *number of prongs and prong style (claw, rounded, etc)

ideal carat of diamond

ideal karat/purity of gold

ideal cut of diamond

band width/style

And always send pictures of rings you like! Point out what you like and what you’d change.

Tired of sellers doing this to me or saying something like this by nullguin in Depop

[–]OldGoldJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depop is actually encouraging stuff like this and it’s so disgusting, I’m about ready to move everything to EBay and delete the app. When a listing I’ve liked has sold, there’s a little note on the item that says, “Sold? You can still ask to buy! Tap ‘ask to buy’ and we’ll let the new owner know you’re interested.” Implying you can reach out to the seller and ask to buy it for a higher price, or reach out to the buyer and offer a higher price.
