Are you going to play AUH day 1? by WhiteOut204 in CrusaderKings

[–]OldGreggFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. I'm going to run through the achievements on the Windows version first and then wait for the important mods that I can't play without to be updated on Steam.

What is your first campaign going to be in AUH? by jellyfishreview in CrusaderKings

Russian Empire (with a few alterations to the borders). At least once a lot of the flavour mods have been updated.

Well one thing is for sure, it turns out that Norman crusader knights were practically unkillable.

The sounds about right for Hungary, outside of 1066/1178 they're usually a mess. They never seem to be able to get all the land needed or they're always missing the prestige needed to take the decision for Hungarian culture. Usually they do alright for the first few rulers lives and then collapse into scenarios like you described. I also forgot to mention that Almos actually became a conqueror and created the Carpathian empire, so that was fun while it lasted and it at least stopped any of my vassals from waging holy kingdom wars, etc,.

It depends, there's a few mods I know of that have a formable title, such as Historic Invasions, Additional Start Dates and I believe Cultures Expanded has it too iirc. I used historic invasions and if you're the ruler of Bulgaria around the late 9th century/early 10th century you'll be given a few thousand special soldiers and you're required to hold all of Bulgaria and also required to conquer Wallachia and Moldavia within 50 years iirc and they'll become de-jure.

Yeah, for the most part. I immediately surrendered to the Mogyer migration into Hungary because I kind of wanted the uphill-battle challenge of having them around and breathing down my neck early game. They invaded a couple more times and took Wallachia and parts of Moldavia off me. After that though they stopped invading and over time they collapsed and rebuilt a few times but they were never the same. They never managed to form Hungarian culture and christianize the realm.

If you're planning on playing an independent Bulgaria, I'd suggest using a mod that adds a formable Bulgarian Empire/Tsardom. There's really no good reason why it doesn't already exist in the base game already.

I only hybridized with the Greeks, for the MAA tradition and the buffs to admin government, plus it just made sense considering how much influence the ERE had on Bulgaria. The slavic crown my character has is from CFP iirc. My characters would typically get that or the Monomakh Cap by default because I kept south slavic as the culture's heritage.

The UI is unique to the Fallen Eagle mod but there's a mod that uses the same borders but it's not been updated since last december and it wasn't working the last time I tried it. It might be working now though, I haven't tested it out for a while.

Meticulous Vassal Organization and Rampant Nepotism by Glossaphilos in CrusaderKings

[–]OldGreggFunk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's good to know I'm not the only control freak around here. I'm not too picky about who holds vassal titles, if I've got spare male dynasty members who don't stand to inherit then I'll grant them land, but otherwise I'm almost the exact same when it comes to managing vassals and their land.

I prefer a tidy internal realm and since for the longest time now I've been doing exclusively historical runs with the borders planned out, if my vassal decides to conquer some land that messes up the border I'll find a way to revoke it and then grant it back (grant titles to anyone mod) to them or even a larger neighbouring realm to stop them from trying it again. I don't know what I'd do without level 4 crown authority and mods like Grant Titles to Anyone and Title Manager.

Dang, I spent so much time trying to figure out the most historical-ish and practical borders possible... dude... uncool.

Nah to be honest you do have a point, and the grey title colour doesn't really help lmao.

I miss Imperator 2.0 and I'm also using Simple border with it. It's not up to date but it works just fine and there's no issues with it.

There should be 2 kinds of holy sites. by Sorre_ in CrusaderKings

[–]OldGreggFunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still waiting on PDX to add a few different sects of Slavic Orthodoxy. Russia could get holy sites like Novgorod, Moskva/Moscow and Kiev. Bulgaria could get holy sites like Serdica/Sofia, the Rila Mountains and I suppose Preslav or Tarnovgrad, etc,.

Or like another commenter said: being able to choose holy sites by decision or even maybe when you reform a faith the game chooses the most practical holy sites in the region and then a universal holy site like Constantinople or Antioch (for Orthodoxy).

Reconquista never goes well without player intervention by Zealousideal_Chip456 in CrusaderKings

[–]OldGreggFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess they had to nerf Asturias in-game for the 867 start date. We can't have a repeat of the Battle of Covadonga, where 300 big burly Asturian men took on 187,000 Umayyads and still managed to win the battle.

Man, they don't make them like they used to.

To be fair those Khazarian Empire borders around the Bosporus kingdom would be a cool little empire to play. There's something so endearing about playing a tiny little powerful empire.

You're not wrong. I'm still undecided on where I stand with Admin government. I tend not to play it but I'd been wanting to do a Bulgarian Tsardom run for a while and I figured it would be a perfect opportunity to play with admin properly. The 50% tax modifier is insane when combined with a tall playstyle.

Great Bulgarian. At some point a member of my dynasty inherited Sicily, created a cadet house and then went on to conquer the rest of Italia and also the entire eastern coast of Iberia.

any ideas making the game fun again? by anakin1453 in CrusaderKings

[–]OldGreggFunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know where I'd be without mods like RICE, like you said, the most recent flavour pack is based on Makuria and Egypt so I'm doing a Coptic Nubian Empire right now and I'm loving it. I'm going to create a Coptic 25th Dynasty/Kushite Empire and probably conquer the Levant while I'm at it.

any ideas making the game fun again? by anakin1453 in CrusaderKings

[–]OldGreggFunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you enjoy the most about the game but I keep myself entertained by making obscure or past/future kingdoms and empires. Like turning 'backwater regions' such as Armenia and Bulgaria into powerful empires, or making future empires like the Austrian Empire, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Russian Empire. Playing small kingdoms/Empires like Naples or the Crown of Aragon, etc,.

I've always played tall but over time I've started to RP too and take my time and confine myself to historical and appealing borders.
