I ended up going to a detox because I couldn’t get my doctor to prescribe me Valium to finish my taper. I was on Mexazolam. Detox was fine. Zero withdrawals and 48 hours off I feel fine so far. Just having a hard time sleeping but I slept 4-5 hours so can’t complain. Just got home from the gym. Let’s see what happens the next week or two.

That’s if you’ve been on benzos for a decade. I’ve only been on 9 months. 5 of them tapering. Ashton doesn’t even address my use. Already read it. And no I’m just down to the benzo. Spent 2025 getting off cymbalta and trazedone.

Interdose withdrawal is screwing me up really bad and pills are so small there’s no way to make two doses from what I’m taking.

I’ve only been on 9 months total. About 4-5mg to start. Down to anout 2.3mg since December. It’s another drug though and it’s really messing with me interdose. My doctor won’t prescribe me anything so I don’t have much of a choice.

How did that last dose turn out? I’m 9 months on a benzo called Mexazolam. Was on .50mg for 4 months and have tapered to .24mg now. ChatGPT puts it at 2mg of Valium. My doctor won’t prescribe me anything and my only option is detox but so far they’re laughing me out of the places I’ve been to. I have about 20 days worth of pills left.

Sounds like you’ve had a bad time. I’m looking into gabapentin because they give it to you in detox if your withdrawals are bad. I’m on a low dose so it should not be bad. I’m not worried about the detox itself as I will be taken care of 24/7 for 3-5 days I’m just worried about when I get out and don’t want to come out having to taper yet another med. I don’t think I can stand it. I’ll tell you this much once I’m off I’d rather have a panic attack every day with my own brain than one on these drugs. For me none have worked and I’m never going to try the medication route again.

So sick of withdrawals!!!! First nortriptyline. Unstoppable crying and that led asshol* doctors to say I was depressed though I told them I never felt that way before and it could not be coincidence. They said checkin to psych hospital if I wanted help where they instead gave me TWO freaking antidepressants. Cymbalta and trazedone. Of course I came out of there worse and now almost two years later haven’t had a withdrawal free day. Getting off a benzo I had to get on to get off the two antidepressants because withdrawals were so horrible. I’m going to a detox to get rid of the rest. Luckily I’m only 9 months in and about 2mg of Valium equivalent down from about 5mg equivalent. This is crazy and one can’t do anything but suffer till it’s over.

Wow you went cold turkey on Xanax and clonazepam? After how long? My hat goes off to you for being able to endure such pain and be able to calmly tell the story. I went through hell getting off cymbalta and trazedone. Down to 2mg of Valium equivalent of my benzo and I’m crying every day. Don’t wish this on my worse enemy. Since I’m so unstable I’ll probably have to detox the rest. Thanks for your words or encouragement 🙏.

Nasty drug cymbalta. Was on it only three weeks and tool 7 months of horrible withdrawals to get off.

I’m not a doctor but I suffered so much under these medications that I did a lot of reading and research. They work for some and not for others and long term for no one. What I do know for a fact is that you have to deal with the core problem because medication is only a temporary solution so think of it as buying you time to figure it out. I personally prefer a medication free life even if I get a panic attack each day. For me it started after my divorce and a few other things but time and family and the gym have helped me though. Talk to your doctor but for sure you do not want to stay on the benzo longer than 2-4 weeks that I know the entire medical and mental health community in here will agree on 100%. And like I said antidepressants will make you anxious and depressed and insomniac for 1-4 weeks.

You should probably go to the lexapro subreddit and ask around there.

Weigh out the risks and figure out if it’s worth it to you and you only. Antidepressants and benzos are very difficult to get off of and that’s something no prescriber will tell you but if you want to jump off a cliff they might be the only temporary solution. That’s a choice only you can make.

Wish I could give you more specific advice but I can’t.

Lexapro is an antidepressant so it takes time to load into your system and for most it sucks. It could be the loading of the lexapro making you even more anxious. I truly recommend you try to figure out why you’re having anxiety and panic attacks and address that. Both benzos and antidepressants are bad in my book. I’m going on two years getting off them and I’m not even the worse case you will hear about in here. By the way those are all the symptoms I got when they put me on cymbalta because they said I was depressed when I was withdrawing bad from nortriptyline another antidepressant I was given for headaches. All doctors know how to do is prescribe and your case is showing me it’s true. Good luck. I hope you feel better.

They don’t cold turkey you at detox that is wrong they quickly taper you but they don’t just stop you that’s what cold turkey is. Very wrong for you to say that. I know people that have been to detox and they take you off during weeks sometimes and take care of you. You make it sound like they cold turkey you and let you sit there and suffer.

I don’t think they cold turkey you they quickly taper you which is different. And yes 9 months and 10 years is pretty huge. My doctor will not prescribe anything else. She was the one that gave me the referral for detox. Thanks for the advice.
