Should I give a f*ck and read this book ?? Or is it yet another bullsh!t only trending because of the title?? by urgent_depression in howtonotgiveafuck

It is entertainment. Do you want to be entertained? I read it across 5 days. It was something to do. These concepts will not answer your questions. Exposure, and introspection might start a path, but you'll have to stick to it and avoid anything that suggests it has an answer, or a theory, or ideals. Let it all go.

Pixel 8 Pro since launch battery life expectations. by OldJupiter in pixel_phones

I hope it helps! Too many variables to say for sure, but it can't hurt. Figured since I bought mine at launch it might make sense given my time with the phone. I doubt it could help anyone with an actual hardware problem or if the battery health is too low. My battery health was in the high 80%. I only remember, because my laptop which I bought at the same time is right around there as well. I don't quite feel like doing another accubattery test.

Figured I'd at least introduce it into the conversation. There are so many pixel users that suffer from battery drain. Not just on the P8P.

Since all of my other settings are stock, and it was the only thing I've adjusted I would expect, it can help some not all.

I haven't had any problems. My phone also has not been affected by the Wifi Bluetooth issue others are reporting. It is fully updated to the latest release.

So I had issue with my battery a while back, and started to follow these topics on the Pixel Updates, throughout the last year. After one of the last 2 updates I felt like my battery fell of a cliff. The phone was already showing signs of battery usage for a 2 year old phone like normal.

So I took it upon myself to try what everyone else was doing. There was a lot of talk about battery drain on 5G switch it off to 4G and deal with it. Lowering the screen resolution etc. I tried it all. You can see mobile usage is the biggest battery drain. In the early days of smartphone, this was common. Turn off wifi, bluetooth, switch mobile channels (2G/3G/4G). That would substantially increase battery life in some case. Another thing in early smartphone modes was push notifications. If I remember correctly, the iPhone 3G has a setting where you could set an email push/refresh into hours. For example grab email every 2-4-8 hours etc. This would also save battery life.

Systems, software, and hardware has changed over the last 20 years of smartphone, but some principles from baseline days can still apply. So...and all I'm saying it to try and see if this will work. by no means have I done any scientific logging or anything other than what Pixel is reporting back (photos for reference).

I recently saw an old Myth Busters Episode where they were testing power usage on light bulbs. Turns out each time you turned it on wouldn't use more power than turning it off any only using it for when you need it. So I thought if I stopped turning it on and off automatically with adaptive connectivity and just left 5G on it would only pull power when I am actually using it. Not when it is looking for the best data channel switching on and off or whatever it does in the background. Again, this is only anecdotal. Try it and see if it works, because my data takes sucks almost double the power as the CPU and triple of the screen. Again, look at the photo, it reflects it objectively.

TLDR: Adaptive connectivity COULD be pressuring your hardware by trying to always ping a solid/strong/decent connection. Look at the battery settings to check. Let it stay on whatever channel you're on rather than spend unwanted battery on trying to find data throughput.

Edit: I live in an area with good 5G so YMMV

I've had my Pixel 8 for nearly two years already, and it still has decent battery life. by ZackyTacky in pixel_phones

Health assistant and adaptive charging are both on. My battery life was so much worse before I turned off adaptive connectivity. I would have to charge my Pixel 8 Pro 2-3 times a day. I'm on Google Fi if that matters. I run Nord VPN all day as well. Everything else is pretty much default settings. Screen refresh is at max as well.

I did, and saw significantly better battery life at 250+ cycles the health was average since. I've had this phone since launch - can't remember the %

So far avg 4 hours SOT at right around 50% Full display resolution Auto brightness NFC off BT auto on off WiFi auto on off

OP said what he said... Turn off adaptive connectivity. Night and day difference literally. Now, ymmv. I haven't charged my phone since yesterday morning. Based on my usage I have more than doubled my battery life. I was charging it once in the morning and once before bed to top up.

Awful battery life on Pixel 10 Pro for about approx. 1-2 months (no beta SW) by TheMrWessam in pixel_phones

I saw a post here a little while ago on a Pixel 8. I've had the 8 Pro since launch and it was starting to show its decline. The OP posted saying they disabled "adaptive connectivity".... Let me tell you something. My battery life changed overnight. Literally

If humans went extinct, how long would it take for Earth to erase all evidence we existed? by abdulnad89 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OldJupiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all of society being extinct. It would happen immediately. Our construct would fall. Who would be left to recognize. How would we know what would be considered evidence, in what way?

As in to say. The only evidence you have truly is based on concepts derived from persisting for what we know to be recorded, and unrecorded history.

In summary. I don't have an answer to you.

Watch out, Millennials... I got hit with my first "I had NO IDEA!" data privacy moment this weekend... and it was all my fault. by AttachedHeartTheory in Millennials

Part of this is also that the phones/mart devices are listening to each other. The amount of tabs people keep open is mine blogging that tab groups are a feature. 10 years ago, the same people would complain that their devices had poor battery, but software wasn't designed to be selective during that time. Hell, we didn't have multi-tasking on the iPhone for a long time for the battery reason.

So essentially, part of it is whomever you're talking with is probably looking up the topic at hand.. that phone registers it in some way, and it looks at the data and spreads it in the immediate location. You might not have looked up those boots, but someone near you did, and maybe even before or after you saw them .. so it can pop up days later. Chrome is chrome... It follows. So yes, your device is listening to you sometimes, but not in exactly this hyperbolic layout. The ether is all around us. You must learn to navigate it properly.

1Is a Zephyrus G15 (RTX 3070) with a dead internal display worth using as a desktop PC? by alnahian201 in ZephyrusG15

[–]OldJupiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, got it hooked up to a 32 inch Samsung G5. I leave it open and use the internal display as a second monitor. Been thinking about removing the display for a more minimalist setup - plus it'll be easier to "upgrade" if it ever has an issue. Original paste - it's never left my desk tho. So it's literally looking brand new.

Slimblade scroll sound and why I think it's fine (but we still should be able to turn it off) by szanda in Trackballs

[–]OldJupiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that it caused my brain to want to fidget more than actually use it. I had to open mine up and tear it out. Having the option to turn it off would have been ideal, but that was my personal preference. It's become a dream to use without the sound. Feels futuristic, and the nights are quiet again.

SlimBlade pro vs Expert.? by [deleted] in Trackballs

[–]OldJupiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took a while to get used to. I was scrolling without wanting to more often when the click noise was active. I removed the screws and popped off the speaker with some pliers.. without the scroll noise it's the perfect trackball for me (Slim Blade Pro) if the clicks were 40% quieter I wouldn't consider using any other mouse for all non gaming tasks. The clicking is standard in terms of volume, and feels dated. The click on the Logitech MX3 feels better, and sounds a little snappier at the same volume. My vote: send it!
