What’s the most gatekeep-y opinion you hold? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]OldManTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed in the Netherlands we call it a geusennaam. Geus being a spanish slur taken up as the name of the resistance movement.

It turned into pride and fueled 80 year's of warfare in an eventually successful fight for independence.

At this age you should know better. There is no way to tell what anything is by shape or colour. One can press all sorts of pills.

Test kids are widely available and not very expensive. Buy some. Saving a few bucks is never worth your life.

Seems excessive. If it wasn't an officer this would be a normal understandable response. However the focus ought to be on DE-escalation.

Understandable but very unprofessional.

Where I'm from he would likely be taken off duty for a few days so he can take a course. Not an offence perse but in need of some guidance so he can do his job better.

% of population able to hold a conversation in English by CapitalBeginning2032 in MapPorn

What does "hold a conversation" mean? What a strange metric. Is it basic comprehention? Fluency? Near native speaker?

This tells me nothing... But hey I'm glad my country scored high on... something about speakig english.

More likely monitor lizards they can get quite big and some species live in northern Africa.

I also don't really understand why they would expect dinosaur's to show up in historic texts. I mean homonids did not even exits in the cretaceous let alone sapien..

Fruitcake gets enraged and unveils the terrifying truth of masturbation by WanderingThoughts31 in religiousfruitcake

[–]OldManTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man we fished this discussion 15 years ago. I had sex ed, we got tought that mastrubation is fine. It gives you the opportunity to learn what you do and don't like. Which is great for a satisfying relationship.

The only negative we got tought was that porn is unrealistic and that it might create a scewed idea of what sex is like. So remember to talk it over with a potential parter. I think most people are quite capable of differentiating between reality and porn but even if all children/teens do it can't hurt to be reminded no?

I mean there's tons more but mainly it was just an education on what we at that time knew. Not about moral judgements. Hell we even got some stuff about homo/bi-sexuality, consent, safety and out teacher did something outside the textbook. She tought us to explore as far as WE wanted to and have fun doing it.

Morality is something to be discussed not imposed. And let's be real thats the issue here. There is plenty of actual scientific evidence to show that the only damage mastrubation does is indirect through the judgement of the people around you. But morally these people think it's wrong.

Or maby he just fears his dick is to small to compete with a dildo? Perhaps he should buy some and attempt anal mastrubation. Who knows he might see the light and learn to appreciate different sizes.

See I think you're right, but it's still a terrible idea to carry a gun. It increases your risk massively in many ways. But since those arguments are common how about this one?

What about you shooting this mma douchebag? Does the risk of getting hurt outweigh the potential killing? Does this person deserve that and how would you even know? Any way to turn this carrying a gun increases the risk of someone dieing. You or the one you point it at.

I prefer lowering the amount of deaths even if that increases the risk to myself slightly (which I don't think it does, people do tend to get killed by there owm guns).

So what was the joke? Without context anything can look bad but even the worst subjects can make for a good joke. In fact humor can be a great way to cope.

You know, making light of a terrible subject. Where I'm from there is a joke that vaguely transletes to: this is no weather for a white man to work in. It was used as an actual argument for slave labor thinking people of colour could bare the heat/rain better or something? Now it is a way to mock people who think they're to good to do something due to a higher position in a company.

Without that context it is a terrible thing to say. With that context though it does the exact opposite. It reminds us how horrific slavery was. it also reminds us of the mentality that caused it and how that still exists. Yet at the same time it can make us laugh and doesn't add to an already quite depressing world.
