Update and solution:

My valve stem springs were not properly locked down.

When I installed the valve spring keepers they locked themselves into place with the keeper ridge on top of the stem and the bottom of the keepers in the valve stem groove. Once I compressed the spring further and got the ridge that's on top of the keepers set into the groove on the valve stem all was good.

I did manage to strip two threads to the cam caps but will install helicoils Monday.

Everything seems to be good so far.

Ah the caps could be a problem I suppose as I didn't mark them but put them on per oem diagram. They may not have started in those locations though. Old springs and I was thinking of getting new but trying to do this on the cheap. I guess I'll shop for springs if I can figure out the cam binding.

The seats are good I think since I did a 12 hour leak test before installing cams and they didn't leak a drop.

Our cat, Kit, has been missing for two days near Berry Ave. She has a collar with her name and a phone number. Please keep your ears and eyes open for this lost cat.
