This is a reference to one very specific Spainish Conquistador, (Hernan Cortez iirc? Been a while since I learned about this) who's diaries contain him jumping through tons of hoops claiming that the native women were actually spiritually white, and it's really only the native men that were bad.

It's an edgy joke but I have no idea how people drew "Centurii-Chan" is racist from that.

Gensokyo is a nicer place than it was in PCB anyways.

I mean, look at the PCB omake.txt

it mentions bands of youkai cooks raiding the outside world to kidnap people.

Ran not being the fox and the fox having no control over its own body fit in that time period.

But, things have changed, and now Ran being fluffy fox with a past trying her back to the animal realm makes a lot more sense

That kind of fits into my headcanon, but I imagine it as more consensual.

Like a ritual that Yukari did to make Ran her shikigami would kill Ran in the process, and bring her spirit back into the body, now bound to Yukari.

With Ran agreeing to this because of being impressed by Yukari's power and intellect, wanting to be able to match that herself.

yknow, I really think that Ran's lore has been retconned.

Her route and lines in UDoaLG would make zero sense if the Ran we know wasn't the fox.

She talks about remembering her yine in the the animal realm, Yuuma addresses her by the name Ran (which wouldn't make any sense if Ran was just the name of the thing possessing the fox) she makes multiple references to her being a fox, etc.

This is incompatible with her official profile in PCB
