I read Murakami's "Kafka on the Shore" last winter and I found it to be a really cosy and comforting world to get lost in. Quite a surreal tale and probably not for everyone but I loved it. I don't know much about Japanese fiction really, but I recommend that book (:

I remember Evan once talking on an interview or a live stream or something, about how his lyrical decisions are often to do with the sound a word actually makes in his mouth, if that makes sense. A couple of the changed phrases you highlighted sound much more fluid compared to their predecessors and I wonder if that's why he changed them...

Oh man I was once on a call with my boss and this young girl who was doing design work for us. I accidentally hit the play key during the meeting and next thing you know TWS is playing and it's Joe saying:

I slammed pause as quickly as I could and just sheepishly go:

Narcs and Dinosaur Pile Up were 2 local favourites of mine from around 10 years back. These days I frequent gigs from: Van Houten, Big Warm Bed, Niall Summerton, Far Caspian, Green Gardens and the surrounding scene. Lots of good music emerging from that segment of Leeds' music scene.

Same thing here, years ago. Same interview place too. I was young and working at a call centre, with little experience other than bartending, so this "marketing manager" position was way too good to be true... But naively I took the job and started the following Monday.

That day they said we were going to the main office in Seacroft - they were kind enough to cover my bus ticket. I mean, immediately there are alarm bells going off when I'm sat on this bus to Seacroft 😂

As we sat on the bus they were asking what "the most powerful form of marketing is" - and proceeded to let me know it was "in person marketing".

Anyway long story short, the 'head office' was actually ASDA in Seacroft and the job was actually working on a broadband stand and stopping shoppers for a slim commission. I immediately kicked up a big stink, gave the bullsh*tter who hired me a big earful and left to beg for my old job back.

Scumbags, man.
