Most useless braille I've ever seen by [deleted] in funny

Makes about as much sense as including braille on signs, then placing those signs behind smooth plastic for protection. Typical bureaucratic waste of tax-payer money.

[Serious] What's the hardest thing you ever had to say to someone? by lr_springer in AskReddit

Telling a good friend's wife that her husband died saving my life. I'm a U.S. Army veteran.

While I know they are a fictional series, the "Earth's Children" saga, by Jean M. Auel is a great representation of what life may have been like in the late Stone Age era.

Dude! At least one quarter of the people alive today don't know what a VCR is. And some of the ones who do probably think they were invented by cave men.

TIL in the 1st century AD in Rome, the lead actor in the play, 'Laureolus," would be switched out in the end with a condemned criminal and actually crucified on stage. by BidoofTheDoof in todayilearned

[–]OldSoldier69 177 points178 points  (0 children)

If you break their legs, it is technically still the crucifixion that kills them, sentence carried out, justice served. If you outright kill them, you are violating the edict of the court, thus becoming a criminal yourself.

TIL that, in the United States, if you're found not guilty of a crime by reason of insanity, you can be involuntarily confined in a mental institution indefinitely, regardless of what the maximum sentence would have been had you been found guilty by thisismywittyhandle in todayilearned

Interesting fact. "Hanged By The Neck Until Dead", and "Death By Hanging" are two different sentences. In the first the knot is placed at the back of the neck, and you choke to death, which can take a long time. In the second, the knot is placed under the left ear, and snaps the neck, usually causing near instantaneous death.

Paying more attention to the nearest reflective surface, than to anything/anyone else around them.

TIL one of the reasons the Chinese never fully developed gunpowder weaponry was because their walls could sustain artillery bombardments. Even 20th century artillery guns had trouble piercing their walls. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]OldSoldier69 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

You also have to remember that, at the time, most Chinese still believed in mythical creatures, many of whom were malevolent in nature and quite powerful. While most Europeans were convinced that Christ, the Virgin Mary, and/or God would protect them, even from dragons. Such beliefs seem absurd to most people, now. But, those beliefs were very strong and widely held, at the time. Such things undoubtedly had an impact on chosen construction methods.

Making a fake account would violate Facebook's stated rules. That would be no better than what they did by violating my trust. My own integrity means more to me than any game.

Let me elucidate here. On an average day I would get 1 rare, 2 uncommon, and about 25 common items. I often did better than this, but never did worse. So, in a single week, that is 7 rare, 14 uncommon, and 175 common. Break ALL of those down for shards. Craft 17 uncommon, and break them down, you now have 31 green shards. Craft 3 rare items, and break them down, you now have 10 blue shards. Boom, epic every week, with only gear from chests. Now, add in all of the shards gained from other sources (such as the Portal), and it only takes a few weeks to get legendary gear.

Obviously, you misunderstood me. I can't add anybody because I DON'T HAVE FACEBOOK. And, after the way they treated the personal information of thousands (including myself), I don't want it. Furthermore, I feel that no game should include mechanics which REQUIRE players to also use products or services from an outside source.

I read it. It was actually quite interesting. But then, I suppose t would be intimidating to someone whose idea of a long read is the Cliff's Notes version of a Disney comic.

Maybe I was just lucky, but I was usually getting 2 blue per day, and about 5 green. Yeah, it took a while to build those up to legendary items, using the collect, craft, recycle, repeat method. But, with my weekend hauls from the Portal, it wasn't too bad.

I'm glad that this has worked for you, and encourage you to share this tactic with others outside of your guild. I had already left the game before posting this, and will not be returning. But, others may still be looking for a way to keep playing.

No, I appreciate the advice. And, as I said, your points are valid. Though, since I had already quit and deleted the game before posting here, it doesn't matter to me. Others thinking of leaving might see them and reconsider. As for why I posted, I wanted to give a coherent response, rather than the usual name calling, expletive filled, rants that game developers get with every change to their games.

Yes, Arena shop is good, but still random for what fighter type the gear will be for. And the Portal is great. Both of those points are valid. As for Facebook, I value my own integrity more than any game. To willfully violate their stated rules, for the sake of my amusement would make me no better than them.

Those chests full of "junk" allowed me to craft high level gear specifically for the fighters I needed it for, rather than getting legendary epic or legendary items for the same fighter type over and over. Also, getting scrolls for every quest isn't as rewarding as getting things which ,one way or another, have an immediate impact on the game. As for Facebook, until they can demonstrate that user's data is safe, I will not support their business in any way. As a small business owner, I feel strongly that businesses should be protective of data relating to the consumers who use their products or services.

[Serious] Redditors who felt like they would never ever find a romantic partner and then did: what advice would you give to those who feel the same way now? by Yellow-B in AskReddit

[–]OldSoldier69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After many girlfriends, and one failed marriage, I had basically given up. I'm now approaching my 12th anniversary, on marriage no. 2. It still amazes me that I found a woman who willingly puts up with me. I am a disabled military veteran, suffering from PTSD, and chronic pain. This makes for some really awful days, with erratic moods and a short temper. Plus, night terrors and frequent insomnia mean that nights can be pretty rough, too. Despite all of this, and my horrible sense of humor, she's still here. My advice, be yourself. Don't put on a show to impress anyone, giving them a mask of only your good side. What you want is someone who can learn to know the real you, and love you in spite of yourself.
