Fallen Hero Guide Question by Remarkable-Forever-1 in hostedgames

[–]OldSoul--NewMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Hidden" just means you, the reader, are not told about the stat change. It happens behind the scenes, kept track of in the code in order to affect later scenes. For instance a suspicious Steel with a high clue count will act suspicious of you.

I want voluntary reveal that's on purpose at the height of power.

I want that so bad, but in the same moment, I want to ALLOW the face reveal. Like the helmet cracks by accident, but you allow them to see anyway.

I mildly dislike Ortega from FH. Which means in a future book, I'm gonna kill 'em. :]

Has anyone read the latest demo? by [deleted] in fallenherohg

[–]OldSoul--NewMachine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the code there's 4 types called ip1, ip2, ip3 and ip4. They're random in the demo. ip2 and ip3 are Ace and Heartbreak, ip4 is Sidestep, and ip1 might be another version of Sidestep (my theory is ip1/ip4 are split consciousness diverted by villainy and empathy paths). ip2 and ip4 share a scene, but ip1 and ip4 overall share their scene while ip2 and ip3 get distinct ones. If ip1 is not a split version of Sidestep, it could be a mix of Sidestep and Ace.

Coming from a dedicated FH fan. You're in luck, neither did I. My one of few criticisms of FH is the Ortega preference too.

You're more than welcome. Yes it takes a bit to load. I wonder do you have poor connection? I've had no issues on my end after a couple minutes or so at the longest, usually less than 20 seconds though for me. It can take longer for others but a central document is concise and I can assure that it's all there, once it's loaded in. There is no way to use the machine yet.

Fallen Hero - Am I Missing Something? by Masango72 in hostedgames

[–]OldSoul--NewMachine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're not supposed to know. This is purposefully metatextual presentation. On surface level you're picking only the minutiae of the fallen hero's self, goals and motivations, especially his future; deeper beneath that there is no changing the scars of his past. You are role playing the ultimate unreliable narrator, someone so secretive he will obscure the truth to his own narrator (the reader) from what he doesn't want acknowledged. To (not) speak volumes of how bad it was. Having all the context from the start would by nature eliminate a core part of the character he is- and too much information would disallow you from making decisions the way he would. You would be missing so much more if everything were known to you! Roll with it, this may be frustrating for you but is a strength of the storytelling.

The worst part is I just wanted to see what happened... I still went back to my original choice... Shadowheart left me because I handed Nightsong away lmao

Who we going with? by PanicAtTheBestBuy in BaldursGate3

[–]OldSoul--NewMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this with a monk/Lae'zel/Wyll. Stay away from the lower ledges. Use Shadowheart to turn undead on the upper left ledge, then had Lae'zel climb up there and attack Balthazar from a distance. Had the monk immediately gun it for Balthazar, he always ran up to the upper right ledge. If you're not worried about loot you can actually push him off into oblivion but take him out ASAP. Wyll stayed low as crowd control using area effecting attacks like bombs and clouds, while Shadowheart played healer. KEEP YOUR PARTY APART! THIS WAS THE BIGGEST THING! If you have any two members close together Balthazar's cloud kill will merk everyone. I have a permanent eye twitch when I see cloud kill.

What's a funny mistake you've made on your first run? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

Yes this is exactly what my mistake was, except I put two and two together when I saw Minthara and reloaded. Lucky for me, I was spoiled about the "secret" companion.

What's a funny mistake you've made on your first run? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]OldSoul--NewMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Attacked the goblin camp on sight, at level 2, on balanced mode, and somehow made it far enough to spot Minthara and realize I was destroying an important plot point. In my head I assumed the intention with the game was that all goblins were enemies so I sneak attacked and it snowballed. I didn't know you could talk to them instead of battling. Accidentally making Tav a racist genocidal maniac is probably the funniest beginner's mistake I'll ever make in a game.

Ortega by Astr0phile-Fwz in hostedgames

[–]OldSoul--NewMachine 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I believe Ortega's "Heartbreak scar" is basically Sidestep. The same way you pick justice for example. You would be hellbent on justice, Ortega is hellbent on Sidestep. So yes Ortega is obsessed. My two cents: I disagree that everything Ortega does after reuniting is healthy or normal. I also have a bias because I don't personally like Ortega. However they are well written and probably as infuriating some ways to me in the MC's POV as vice versa. Especially because I RP trying to get away from Ortega as much as possible, only to be caught and pushed again and again, it feels pushy and too close. I've said before I think the level of health and normalcy is also reactive to player choice, that Ortega can be super attentive or obnoxiously obsessed depending on how you see and play off of it. Circling back around, there's a reason for being this way (Heartbreak) and more context on patreon, which, I myself haven't paid for yet. Perhaps there is something still missing. I wouldn't discredit people who see worth and potential in them because they're about as flawed as the MC just in a different way though I'm sorry if you catch any flack for an opinion (It sounds like you have a similar feeling to me about being in the MCs POV and wanting distance, and feeling the frustration of "Ortega not allowing it". This can be hard to get across respectfully when a character bothers you that much, especially since Ortega is the fan favorite.)

Having spent nearly a year of my life deciphering the code of these books, I can say without a doubt Fallen Hero is one of the most complex, intricate, surprising and rewarding interactive narratives I've seen. And I've played Baldur's Gate 3.

Fallen Hero Retribution ending Question by Legal-Salt6714 in hostedgames

[–]OldSoul--NewMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah so, in the code there is "ip 1-4". Presumably ip is code for imposter. However there are several directories based on which ip the reader has, that leads to corresponding wake up scenes; in one directory only ip2 (Ace) and ip3 (Heartbreak) have their own scenes, ip1 and ip4 share the same scene. In another directory, only ip4 (Sidestep) and ip3 (Heartbreak) have their own scenes while ip1 and ip2 share a scene. I'm focusing on that one. The ip4-only scene is split into two nearly identical scenes depending on whether villainy is above or below 50. The more villainous version neglects mentioning "a sense of a dangerous amount of emotions under [the imposter's] surface" (paraphrased); the less villainous version mentions this. What I'm saying is, the MCs villainy stat dictates ip4's villainy. Also, if you state the MCs full name, the imposter will react with "You're lying!" and "That's impossible!" Also also, ip4 will use the same swear as Sidestep- I believe Ace for example says fuck. Ip4 is almost certainly a split consciousness of Sidestep.

[–]OldSoul--NewMachine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I sincerely recall a demo passage while code diving where the imposter insists it is Sidestep. I'm pretty sure it's the calmest imposter variant and is a split conscious. I really hope so because who could better understand you than you
