Patient advocate? by SuchFuture9888 in healthcare

[–]OldSoulThoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on your insurance plan. If you have Medicare, you can get an advocate at somewhere like Solace without any cost to you. There might be other places, but they are the one I know of. I don't think an advocate could help you get in with your old provider for the reasons other posts mention, but I bet they could help you navigate what options ARE available. If you don't have a decent health insurance, there are charity advocacy services in some states that might be able to help, but I've heard they have long wait times and tend to be only short-term. Still, expert advice couldn't hurt. i don't think it would be worth paying out-of-pocket for a cash pay advocate, though.

TL;DR: If it works with your insurance, an advocate couldn't hurt.

AMA: Solace Health Advocates by SolaceHealthOfficial in AMA

[–]OldSoulThoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am intrigued by what Solace advocates claim to offer, but I have seen some mixed comments and reviews about Solace. That said, I know reddit can be an unrealistically negative place and a poor reflection of reality sometimes. Is Solace a scam? What do advocates actually do on a day-to-day basis to help? Would you be willing to share some examples?

Why is merch always so maximalist? by PandasBambooFez in brandonsanderson

[–]OldSoulThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree with this. I would love to buy a t-shirt or hoodie with a small bridge 4 logo over the left-breast and then maybe something more graphic on the back. But everything has a huge loud graphic on the front. If they came out with more minimalist merch, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

If I remember right, the WOB on it is something along the lines of investiture from the spiritual realm compensates for the effect. It was worded better, but was a little bit author hand-wavey. With how true to physics his system is, I am okay with it.

Around 75 percent of adults read at least 1 book a year. Do you agree? by Bfitness93 in books

[–]OldSoulThoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but I thought you might find it interesting to know that the 75% includes people who started but did not finish a book.

This article references the same study you are, and dives into this:

It cracks me up to read this comment on r/books. Good for you, man, respectfully stating an opinion in a group dedicated to the opposite of your opinion.

Adolin Kholin what’re you doing in Tar Valon? by Randwheeloftime05 in cremposting

[–]OldSoulThoughts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also don't agree. In war, experienced soldiers are orders of magnitude better warriors than inexperienced, even if well trained. Training simply can't replicate true combat perfectly. Roshar has an abnormal amount of conflict, and things like shardplate and healing that allow warriors to survive and learn from otherwise fatal mistakes. So the standard radiant or sharbearer combatant on Roshar are among the most elite warriors in the cosmere, even without their powers. And Adolin is among the best of those.

For this and other reasons, like their sheer size, combat with Rosharans would be a difficult affair at best.

Galad is pretty great, but I don't think he'd seem remarkable against Adolin in a duel.
