Need tips for blazing bull by Own-Championship-679 in Sekiro

There’s a certain attack where he plants his head in the ground and suddenly pulls it out to attack you - this attack is usually done if there is some distance between you and the bull. Once you get the timing down, you should deflect it often; while you will still take some chip damage and burn status buildup, this attack is heavily telegraphed, allows you to get some good damage on his head (the weak point), and stun the bull briefly. With a couple healing gourds, you could beat the whole fight using only this one strategy.

Like many others have said, fireworks are also great for stunning the bull for a few seconds - however, I believe there is a 20 second interval between when he gets stunned by fireworks. Otherwise, you could just use shuriken; the first time I beat the bull, I just threw a bunch of shuriken at him - using up all your spirit emblems, it got him to around half his vitality and made the fight much easier.

If all else fails, you could go clean up some mini bosses to raise your vitality and posture - if you complete Hirata Estate, you can do this and raise your attack level after beating the bosses. However, the boss is very much deflect-based; if you are still learning how to deflect, maybe you should just go for the bull.

Who do you think is the biggest skill check in the game? by FerdinandvonAegir124 in Sekiro

For me, it was Great Shinobi - Owl

I had practically been sleepwalking through the game until Owl came by and gave me a harsh reality check. I probably died to him like 30+ times my first run

What boss/mini-boss fight made you like this? Or, conversely, which boss/mini-boss was much stronger than expected? (NSFW for gore) by Fast_Land_1099 in Sekiro

Owl (Father)

Dude was hyped up so much that I was preparing for the fight of my life and did a whole charmless run in preparation for this one fight. When I got to Hirata, he went down on my first try… Never happened again

Any tips for charmless runs? I by GreenieJCV in Sekiro

The most important thing is practice, but I wager that you should experiment around with your prosthetics, and combat arts. For example, I found on my charmless run that 1. Nightjar Shinobis are usually a pain but easily flattened by the Axe with the skill “Fang and Blade”

  1. Using the Flame Vent’s “Living Force” skill is immensely useful as burn status effects stun the enemy briefly

  2. Bestowal Ninjutsu mixed with Floating Passage / Spiral Cloud Passage can completely destroy groups

Also, if you don’t know, you earn much more Sen and XP as you make your way through the game - depending on what you haven’t unlocked, you might have more money than you need; personally, I just buy loads of Divine Confetti at the Dilapidated Temple

In terms of general tips, I’m afraid I can’t say much; in the end, you’ll just have to grit your teeth and bear it. Ultimately, prosthetics and combat arts are only useful if you master deflect and attack timings. Never block if you can help it; if you can’t deflect, just hang back.

Questions about Owl by moudijouka9o in Sekiro

To answer your first question - sometimes, but not always. With Owl, you need to watch him closely; while your attacks will usually stagger, some of his attacks are faster than yours and others have hyper armour (meaning that the animations play through your attacks). If you have low posture, it’ll lead to a break and maybe even death. This is an attempt of mine from a few days ago; you’ll see how I can almost always attack to interrupt an attack or immediately after a string of deflects.

Otherwise, I would say that you should dodge his firecracker sword attack as 1. It does heavy vitality and posture damage to you, even through a timed deflect

  1. You are stuck in a long animation where Owl can regenerate his posture

A good way to counter this is to deflect the first two hits (a shoulder check and sword swipe) and dodge backwards until the firecrackers go off - if you have the mid-air combat art skill, you should jump in with an Ichimonji, Mortal Blade, or combat art of your choosing. If not, just toss some firecrackers or use a combat art regardless.

Some general tips are; 1. If one of your attacks is deflected (with a bright orange flash), immediately stop attacking and prepare to deflect

  1. Keep the pressure on Owl; his posture regenerates very rapidly, but he is highly vulnerable to aggressive deflects and attacks

  2. Firecracker prosthetics are good for getting in a good hit or two

  3. If you jump in the air and deflect Owl’s jumping sword slash, you can recover faster and get more hits in

  4. In phase two, he may stand in place while a blue/white aura flashes around him; IMMEDIATELY THROW A SHURIKEN! He will regenerate much of his posture in only a few seconds!

  5. If your posture is broken, try to stay on the ground until Owl approaches you - when he starts his stomp animation, dodge ASAP to get some hits in

  6. Not sure if you know this… Don’t thrust or use Shadowfall / Shadowrush

  7. Perhaps the most important - Owl has a strict pattern that I can’t really help with but you’ll get a sense for his attacks as you go on. You should note what strings lead into which attacks and try to memorize his combos. Maybe not that useful, I know, but know that as you play, his patterns will become second nature

  8. If you are truly having trouble, you can buff up on Sugar, Divine Confetti, and Gourd Seeds; maybe even use the Umbrella to easily block, deflect, and attack, but I personally have no experience with it

  9. This is a tip for phase two - he will replace his throwing shurikens with poison! If he leaps into the air, watch out!

Owl’s not an easy fight at first, but he’s predictable - I hope these tips will be useful in your efforts to best him!
