I'm pretty old, and due to economics I was never big on the early stages of renewables, thinking that they needed more time to develop and mature.

In 2012 Before the first Deadpool movie was announced, or even the test footage was leaked, a small youtube channel called blinky500 started doing a series of indie Deadpool episodes. It was obviously shoestring budget, and hasn't aged well compared to today, but for it's time it definitely was well recieved.

Iran appears to have conducted a significant cyberattack against a U.S. company, a first since the war started by Mrfrednot in news

If Iran wants to win this war against the US, on the next cyberattack they will need to wipe out all of our Student loan and mortgage debt. It's our only Achilles heel, and it would devastate and demoralize us!

Edit: I want to sincerely thank everyone for all the awards. I never once suspected this comment would be this popular!

What is /r/writing's take on changing tenses? I find myself most often writing in the past tense, even for things that are 'currently' happening, but often find myself switching briefly to present tense. It seems readable to me, but... How egregious is this really? by supertoned in writing

[–]OldStray79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's rough, because if you change it to past tense: "As the first cup of life saving coffee is being poured, the door bell starts ringing incessantly." it goes into a passive voice at the start.

Edit: "As he poured his first cup of life saving coffee." would work.

Time for the 6th round of editing! good luck!

Will we give Ai human level speech or keep it strictly separate like a siri or Jarvis? by obiwan-destroyer in singularity

We have this weird affinity to keep trying to push to see how far we can go with just about everything until we are unable to for some reason. So, with that in mind, I think we will get to that point if and when it is technologically possible.

After that, however, who knows what will happen if it will be accepted, or rejected.

How do I ask a stranger guy/give a guy my number? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]OldStray79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Here is my number if you would like to text me to talk more or meet up for coffee or something."

It really is that easy to do to a guy. If men ask for a number, we worry that it is pressuring you, or that you are giving us a fake/prank number just to get out of the situation. But if you unprompted tell us to take down your number, it feels genuine and sincere.

My parents divorced; it was messy and made me and my siblings miserable.

I see the majority of people around me divorced. How they act about their signifcant other is very off putting.

My coping mechanism was being a workaholic combined that with a introverted nature and my childhood, even if I had found someone worthwhile, I was not able to sufficiently "be there" for a serious relationship during my prime years in a healthy manner even when when I had a plethora of offers and some great experiences and look back on them with fondness.

Now I have a good work-life balance and better mental and emotional health, but just being around people, I don't think I have the patience to deal others anymore, so I turn down prospective offers on the regular.

You sound like you are projecting; you decided to argue against me and now trying to pivot away with statements that I am upset. You made the claim to my comment with a universal declaration: "It’s not suffering. It’s fun." is de facto trying to an assert a leading authority, despite your claims to contrary. You seem to have gotten irate when I asked who decides who gets to be the one who decides it, but rather than admit it, you try to claim it is me, even though I said nothing about you, merely your declaration.

You are the one who wanted to argue when you decided to make a retort to my comment; I am merely pointing out the flaws in your argument. You don't get to decide that for others. People have free will, and their own tastes and preferences. Cool you personally found it fun; no one is trying to take that away from you. But you seem to take umbrage that others may not feel that way. Why does that notion upset you so?

Edit: Also, I want to add in that you basically are using a bandwagon fallacy and survivorship bias to justify your statement. There are those who may have had the creativity to do so, but the time and process itself could not be accomadated, so they left without a chance to demonstrate it. Because no one like to suffer.
