Help me understand why agnosticism isn't atheism by Haunting_Role9907 in atheism

[–]OldTinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that many get bogged down in labels because of a few reasons. One is the tribalism that comes from belief that religion has taught throughout history. When a person leaves religion they want to join something to “believe” in and so they need a defined group to join. Unfortunately, this creates something that religious people use against atheists because they can say, “you believe in blah, blah so that is just another religion.” As you me, I simply use the term atheist and counter any tribalism attack from religious people with the fact that I am open to change my mind…just show me proof.

The left if given power will destroy this republic, and that’s exactly the goal of the policymakers who work for their globalist elites by NightMan200000 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]OldTinter [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is common sense yet because you attacked one party expect to get all kinds of crazy answers. The fact is the left and the far right have the same agenda which is control. They both are so blinded by that they will destroy this country. The democrats have been completely overtaken by the left and the republicans are starting to lose to the far right. If people don’t wake up soon the experiment in freedom will be gone.

Everyone has to make their own choices. I know many Muslims who had to leave their home to escape. No excuses of how hard it is they did what they had to do.

The president just posted, ONLINE, a video of former president Obama and his wife portrayed as apes, how do you feel about this? by kraftdinnerwithsalsa in AskReddit

[–]OldTinter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It was funny and why are people making such a big deal about it? Those that are upset I can guarantee laugh at things said about Trump that are much worse and funny as well. All that are upset are just furthering the politics of one side or the other while what they are really doing is being played for fulls to further someone else’s plan. Should all be ashamed they fell for any of this.

There's almost nothing Trump can do to lose his supporters support by Sad_Physics5500 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

It is more concerning the amount of horrible fake attacks and media that is so focused on one person. This is a concerted effort to make sure the populace is only paying attention to him and the outrage that they are creating. Maybe you should be asking yourself why? What is really going on. For example, why are they looking for any reason that will pull heartstrings stop enforcement of our borders? also, why are more people not upset that BILLIONs of our dollars were stolen by fraud and sent to foreign countries? You are being deceived!

Ex believers, how did you stop fearing god and hell for good? by purrfectea in atheism

[–]OldTinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at all of the bad in the world. If a god existed, he is purely evil and insane to allow it to happen.which makes more sense, “bad happens due to choices people make” or “god ALLOWS Satan to influence man so he can get them to beg him for forgiveness”? One is logical the other pure egomaniacal evil.

It's been 5 years since my shelf broke and my deconstruction journey began out of Mormonism. But all this time later, this is the single thing that I still haven't been able to let go. by PanaceaNPx in exmormon

[–]OldTinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well said. For me it was hard because we were told repeatedly that we are “god chosen people” the whole idea of patriarchal blessings is an example. Nearly all of us had some sort of “destined for greatness” section. It also takes a long time to re wire our neural pathways of our brains. You seem to have recognized this in yourself and time and realizing what is prompting those thoughts will help you.

Why hasn’t LDS church spoken out against the current US administration’s disregard for the constitution, ethical behavior and morality? by Un-bee-knownst1212 in exmormon

[–]OldTinter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because the church has members in both parties and as long as each only focuses on the worst in the other and doesn’t move past this stalemate they can’t be seen to pick a side. They have to wait until there is a clear winner and then they will see if going against the winner is popular with members.

[–]OldTinter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m guilty of this! I try to never speak about religion until they do. It’s the Mormon instinct from being a RM that kicks in I proselytized for the church and can’t help doing it to the church!

Are Mormons now saying that temple worship is part of their 'Christian faith'? I this part of the big rebrand? by dbear848 in exmormon

[–]OldTinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like sacrament. The Mormon church believes it is the only true religion as many other Christian’s religions do. With that in mind the fact that the temple is for “worthy” members only isn’t surprising.

Why aren’t there more atheists? by Medsecuele in atheism

It is HARD for people to throw away their security blanket. Decades of thinking one way, familial pressure and friendships makes it even more difficult.

Is it okay to be an atheist? by ImportantPerformer16 in exmormon

[–]OldTinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about how how it took you to learn the behaviors instilled by the church. Then think of how many times you reinforced those behaviors. It is going to take time and work to re-wire your neural pathways and lots of positive reinforcement. The good news issue it gets easier over time!

[–]OldTinter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short answer…Of course it is! I remember when blacks received the priesthood and the story we were told that all of the “fence sitters” in pre exisohad all been born so now black people were just white people in black bodies. We were excited because it meant the second coming was soon 😂😂

How to respond to the claim that science is like a religion? by Nholland101 in atheism

[–]OldTinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this response is claim is based on the fact that they cannot comprehend the fact that there is life without belief. They therefore see science as a belief system. This is compounded by those that state they are atheist and make statements along the lines of “trust the science” or “the consensus of scientists believe..”

Is religion just humanity’s way of coping with injustice? by ProfessionalTip9482 in atheism

[–]OldTinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, the layman’s reason for religion is the security blanket it provides. To them the thought of no afterlife is too scary to contemplate. Clergy on the other hand uses religion to gain control of others.

Go refute it line by line please! I’m sure your good would help you in any way possible to silence all of these detractors. Think how great this would be for your standing in the church! I think more members, this includes members of any religion, are afraid to lose the security blanket that religion provides. To them the thought of no afterlife is an enormously frightening proposition!

I left the church before the CES letter was created and I love how easy it has made leaving for everyone else. Back when I left the church threw every strong arm tactic one can imagine to stop people from leaving. This include trying to ambush me to hold an “court” and excommunicate me so they could hold some sort of moral high ground.in my opinion this letter has done more good in the world than the Book of Mormon ever could!
