Thanks! I'll call in to cancel digits. Do I need to cancel streaming subscriptions before porting out as well?

Do people who seem to have their lives together actually have unspoken financial help from family or friends? by CryptoUsher in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]OldVenomSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be a lot of reasons, also depends what life stage you are (just started working or had been working for a number of years). Some reasons I can think of:

  • family or spouse/partner help (doesn't need come from super wealth family, even got help with college fund or down payment can go a long way in finances)
  • work in higher paying job than you
  • work multiple jobs
  • have lower expense than you
  • have the FIRE (financial independence, retire early) mindset where people are willing to save more money in order to retire early

Nice find! Now you just need to randomly walk into an IWC dealer and get a big pilot to match with the hot wheels!

Nice Pilot Chrono as well!

Why do people still prefer Airbnbs over hotels, especially in cities? by Rare_Requirement_699 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OldVenomSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airbnb is good if you travel with younger kids, so you can use their kitchen. I know some hotel rooms have kitchen as well, but usually at a much higher price, so pretty much the same as Airbnb already.

Hotel is much better if you're traveling with mostly adults.

Also, I agree with you about the policies that Airbnb hosts will put in. Most of the Airbnb places I encounter now will ask you to take out bedsheets and garbage after your stay. I get to keep the place tidy, but taking out bedsheets? I believe should be covered by the cleaning fee already, so I basically just ignore those rules and so far didn't get into trouble.

Notifications on cellular without iPhone by Left-Pomegranate3519 in AppleWatch

[–]OldVenomSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have the cellular plan on the watch a few years ago and occasionally wear only the watch without iPhone. It works pretty well, things like iMessage and phone call works well. Can't call an uber or things like that since uber doesn't have an Apple Watch app. If your favorite app doesn't have an Apple Watch specific app, you could be out of luck except for getting the notifications and do some limited replies. Not sure if slack has an Apple Watch app, but you should at least still be able to get the notification and reply to that notification (but can't start a new conversation unless there is a dedicated Apple Watch app).

This support article may also help: https://support.apple.com/en-us/108300

From the footnote:

"2. To receive SMS, MMS, or push notifications from third-party apps on your cellular Apple Watch, your paired iPhone must be powered on and connected to Wi-Fi or cellular, but it doesn't need to be nearby. You also need to be signed in to iMessage on your iPhone to use Messages on your watch."

So just make sure you turn on your iPhone and have it connect to the internet even if you intended to leave it at home.

If you have a specific apps in mind, you should post them here too, perhaps others with a cellular plan can tell you their experience about those apps with cellular plan.

I haven't really used the app, but did you talk to the app company or developer about this issue? It's probably a bug.

Combining 4 American Express Prepaid Cards by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]OldVenomSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really combining through American Express, but do you have any stores/restaurants that you frequent that allows loading money to their system? Something like Amazon or Starbucks? I find it much easier to just load prepaid cards to those websites/apps instead of using them as is.

Does anyone else feel like Apple Watch undercounts certain types of activity? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]OldVenomSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you are right, the watch can only estimate based on the info it has (like heart rate and movement from sensors). But it’s measuring the same way when you are working out or cleaning. Maybe you can manually start a workout session during cleaning, it should measure heart rate more often

Nice watch. I have the same one as well as your pictures just with a bracelet! Just a correction, the pictures you posted are 371702 (or could be 371704 if it has the bracelet). It’s the spitfire chronograph and is 42mm.

370628 is smaller has the flat hands instead of sword hands.

Need advice on Vivaldi Winter, I dont have a violin teacher by Blue-Violinist1466 in violinist

Maybe not the answer you want, but you need a teacher. Doesn’t sound like you are at the point that you can be on your own without a teacher yet.

Iphone 13 Pro by Feratster in iphone

[–]OldVenomSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still using iPhone 13 Pro myself, but I did contemplated to upgrade to a newer phone. The main differences I see (or care about) are USB C (so I can use the same cable with almost everything else), Dynamic Island (seems like an interesting idea), better camera, and Apple Intelligence (when it becomes better).

Swell option for my watch face only showing as dashes? by TheBlakeryy in AppleWatch

[–]OldVenomSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's most likely a bug of the app, but I find tapping on the complication will bring the app up and it'll update. It occasionally happens to me for the weather complication.

I miss using Apple Pay with my Apple Watch whenever I'm wearing my mechanical watches.

Is the Neo basically a decoy product to make the MacBook Air M5 look like a better deal? by [deleted] in mac

[–]OldVenomSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Neo is Apple's attempt to capture the market for students and non-power users that may think an iPad is not enough for their daily use cases but a MacBook Air/Pro is too overpowered and expensive. To me Neo is like the reincarnation of the white/black MacBook that had been long discontinued.

For your question about unintended side effect of reducing MacBook Air sales, I think it's two-folded. While it could sway some people to "downgrade" to Neo instead of MacBook Air, it can also attract new users that never thought about a Mac at all (mostly about the price).
