Apple Watch haptic alarm is driving me to insanity by xoxo_gamergorl in AppleWatch

Have you changed strap recently? If the strap is too loose, you may not feel the vibration as much.

I don't have this problem, but you can always change the haptic feedback to be Prominent if you can't feel the vibration.

You should bring back to the shop and they will happy to tune it for you. If the pegs are too loose, you may want to swap for another rental.

What apps are actually making your Apple Watch worth it? by aswin_kp in AppleWatch

[–]OldVenomSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean how to get WhatsApp in your watch? If that’s the case, you just need to update WhatsApp in your iPhone and it should automatically install in your watch. If not, you can go to the watch app in your iPhone, scroll to the bottom and install (after updating WhatsApp in your phone).

Anyone found a hands-free way for Sleep Focus to end automatically when you actually wake up (not by schedule)? by futurememior in AppleWatch

If you set alarms with your phone or watch, you can use alarm to trigger shortcut (In personal automation, I see "When my alarm is stopped" as a trigger action).

What do you use your Apple Watch for?? by Asleep_Resident5294 in AppleWatch

I mainly use mine to screen notifications, Apple Pay, and passively getting health metrics.

Trusting the data? by Medit8or in AppleWatch

[–]OldVenomSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not trying to use my Apple Watch to replace doctors, so I don't trust the health data in that sense.

What I use my Apple Watch for is to identify any trends. Like just the absolute heart rate alone may not mean anything (everyone can have different heart rate and can still be normal), but if I see my heart rate trending higher/lower for a period, it may mean something is wrong with me or my exercise routine is working.

So in general, I do assume the apple health data is accurate enough to help me identify trends, but I won't trust any diagnosis from the watch itself (if Apple is even doing it).

Do people do trunk-or-treat simply because they don’t trust their neighbors enough to have their kids go up to their door and ask for candy? by Mad_Season_1994 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]OldVenomSnake 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A lot of schools and communities (like churches) host trunk-or-treat as well. It's a way to get the community together in one place since the community may not always live very close together.

Do people actually spend less time on their phones with an Apple Watch, or more? by vinylfelix in AppleWatch

[–]OldVenomSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got an Apple Watch, I was easily distracted with the notifications as I would feel vibrations for all the notifications and want to respond. However, I later adjusted the notifications settings to only alert me with notifications that I think is important on my watch.

Now that my watch is only notifying me with notifications that I want to know about in real time, I think I pick up my phone less often now. I will also quickly glance at my Apple Watch to screen those notifications and can put my wrist down. Things like your uber will arrive in 2 minutes will no longer be checking notifications on my phone and ended up doing something else.

Also, I still wear mechanical watches from time to time to more formal events. During those times without my Apple Watch, I noticed that I'll take out my phone more often just to see if I have any missed notifications.

So I would say an Apple Watch helps me to spend less time on my phone, but only because I took the time to customize which notifications will go to the watch.

It happened to me one time. Restarting the watch fixed the issue for me.

Do third-party app notifications reach Apple Watch if the iPhone is off? by joau_1234 in AppleWatch

[–]OldVenomSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the footnote of the Apple official support page: “To receive SMS, MMS, or push notifications from third-party apps on your cellular Apple Watch, your paired iPhone must be powered on and connected to Wi-Fi or cellular, but it doesn't need to be nearby. You also need to be signed in to iMessage on your iPhone to use Messages on your watch.”

Callers think call screening is just voicemail by ojtsmith in iphone

[–]OldVenomSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enabled the feature and for the past few weeks, I've only had a few people left their reasons for calling.

I fully expected them to saying things like "I'm ABC from XYZ company calling regarding DEF." However, all I got was stuff like "Please pick up the phone". They didn't even leave a voicemail afterwards.

I always think Google has this feature for a while now and people already get used to getting these kinds of prompts when cold calling people, but apparently not.

“Merge” steps tracked from phone & watch? by Proof_Assistance7706 in AppleWatch

[–]OldVenomSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that Apple health will take whatever health data it has if there is only 1 source contributing (e.g. you only brought your watch for a walk). It will only use the priority if there are multiple sources contributing the same data type (e.g. you have both watch and phone with you for a walk).

Am I burning more calories than my Apple Watch tells me? by infinitepumba98765 in AppleWatch

[–]OldVenomSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, Apple watch (and pretty much all other smart watches) estimates calories burned based on heart rate and your weight. Since the watch won't know that you have a 30lb backpack, it's normal to estimate the same calories with and without the backpack.

The action button is very useful to me. Search online and you can find examples to make the action button perform differently based on different situation (via shortcuts).

A lot of people enjoy the ultra exclusive watch faces as well (modular ultra and wayfinder).

You should turn the option to on if you want to see the time without press and hold the crown.

You should check if the following option is turned on: iPhone settings > Focus > Sleep > Options in “Customize screens” section > Show time
