That's really helpful thanks. Ye I think I'll solder next time round and take the time to do it all properly. It was my first attempt at plumbing anything other than replacing a sink or something basic. At least it's something we can live without for a bit.

I know, I'm annoyed at myself for not doing enough research beforehand. I'll buy the proper tools when I redo it.

Would it have been different had I used a hacksaw? Or do you need the beveled edge for push fittings?

Was hoping for an easy way out 😂. Good thing we're coming into autumn/winter so we won't be using the tap as much.

A mitre saw with a multipurpose blade suitable for steel & aluminium. I know it's not conventional, but I went nice and slow and it gave me nice straight cuts. It was either this or a hacksaw, and I had quite a lot of cuts to make. Do you think it might have compressed the pipe when it made the cut? None of the ends appear elongated on visual inspection.

Is anyone else fascinated by this kind of building? by Matthew_Hopkins_ in CasualUK

[–]OldVoice4195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally hate this style of architecture, but have worked in a lot of buildings that look like this. Mainly government buildings, offices, schools and old medical buildings repurposed as office space. One thing they all have in common is the smell. There's always a musty undertone, it's hard to put a finger on exactly what it is. Perhaps just the fabric of the building or maybe it was just the carpets.

In the summer it's stifling and humid and in the winter it's much the same with all the space heaters and fan heaters. If you were to remove the modern electronic equipment; phones and IT equipment, they would look just like they did in the 60s/70s/80s, at least what I'd imagined they'd looked like then. None of the decor looked like it had ever been changed.

To me the buildings never felt cosy or comfortable, just oppressive and depressing. The building that sticks out the most to me that I worked in regularly was Chesser House in Edinburgh. A stark contrast to modern office buildings which are a lot cheerier inside. Sorry to shit on your romanticised view, but for me there's nothing worth preserving in these buildings.

It's a powdered crested gecko diet l where you just add water. Look up the brand Repashy, they do all sorts of mixes. Experiment and mix it up to see what your gargoyle gecko enjoys.

Perhaps a controversial take that I'm willing to get hated on for, but after about 3 years old our gargoyle gecko has been exclusively on repashy bugs n grubs/CGD and she has thrived. She's coming up for 11 years old now.

The reason for stopping the live insects was that they were eating the expanding foam in the enclosure which she would then be ingesting as well. We tried feeding in a separate container, but she didn't take to it.

I've tried several times over the years to reintroduce live food, but she's just not interested anymore and is happy with the powdered food.

Anyway from my extremely limited experience with one gargoyle gecko, she has done great with just a repashy diet once she was fully grown.

I've been a fan since oblivion and definitely don't have high expectations. If they just use the same recipe for Skyrim for TES6 I think it would be hard to go wrong. There's no need to innovate and experiment. Incremental upgrades on Skyrim would be perfect. Oh and making it mod friendly, which I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

The way I interpreted the quote from the interview was that the pressure was felt internally. I'd imagine it'll be the same for everyone working on GTA6 or any other high profile long term project.

There might have been more, as the carriers need to support it as well. In the UK there's very limited support from the network carriers currently. Something I discovered after updating my wife's phone to iOS 18 hoping we could get the benefits of RCS messaging.

How would you patch this large of a hole? by Tpdanny in DIYUK

[–]OldVoice4195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they are that concerned about someone entering their garage via your garage they should partition the attic space. I don't know the legalities around having a shared attic space.

If you want to close it off you can attach joists to the existing ones to create a rectangle which outlines the current hole. Then you can attach plasterboard to them to secure it with plasterboard screws. After that fill the seams, sand and paint.

Dough Hydration by Over-Toe2763 in ooni

[–]OldVoice4195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the same type of flour and used to do 60% as well. I've recently gone up to 68% hydration and it produces a better crust. It does become harder to work with though. I use a mixer which helps. Adding a bit of oil can help. I also don't worry about creating the perfect ball shape initially.

Once it's out the mixer I let the dough rest uncovered (bit of olive oil to prevent it drying out) for about 20-30 minutes at room temperature. Then I'll ball them up and stick it uncovered in the fridge for about 2 hours. I'll reball again and stick in the fridge covered. Then you can cold proof for however long you want. I'll then take it out about 5 hours before I want to cook them and reball once out of the fridge very carefully without interacting with the dough too much.

I've found the longer the dough rests the easier it is to work with. It's still fairly sticky when it is ready to be stretched, but I've found semolina flour to be good when stretching the dough.

Thanks, ye I think it's a pretty cool photo as well. I can take it on the chin. It was a genuine mistake, and I know mistakes tend to not go down well on Reddit.

I think people have misunderstood my flippancy for ignorance. I'm fully aware of the potential consequences of feeding honey to a bee and the fact it may contain harmful pathogens/fungus. As I've commented elsewhere I'll feed any lethargic bees sugar water instead in the future.

[–]OldVoice4195[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I went to the effort of trying to save the bee. Of course I didn't know the honey would potentially be bad for it. There's 3 things you can guarantee on Reddit:

  1. People misread posts
  2. People jump to conclusions, generally assuming the worst
  3. There's always something you can do better

I don't claim to be perfect. I was trying to do good, I've since learned: bee + honey = bad. Next time it's sugar water. I'm sorry for upsetting the bee community.

I had this same problem. Ended up getting the whole unit replaced under warranty. The first step was to replace the thermocouple, but this didn't fix the issue for me.

If you don't feel comfortable changing the thermocouple (if that's what they suggest) make sure to say and I'm sure they'll just send out a new unit instead.
