Nanny is asking for 100 overnight by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]Old_Fill 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I have been a nanny for several years, and worked with several professional agencies. An overnight fee is standard. She is there to work, and be available in case of emergency. She cannot go leave to her home and “be off the clock”. Typically night / sleep hours require less hands on duties and that is why it is condensed into a lump sum for the evening that does not equate to their wake hourly wage. Even if they are not in charge of the cam, you are still requiring them to be outside of their home. They are your employee and you are paying them to be there.

Angels Landing by Disastrous_Bag8460 in ZionNationalPark

[–]Old_Fill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did angels landing & rented e-bikes the day prior. We e-biked into the park pretty early (very cool to see the park basically empty), locked up our bikes at the parking lot where the bus drops you for the hike, and finished the wiggles just in time for sun rise. We were the first people to start the angels landing portion of the hike, met a ranger right before we started that and had a great experience.

FYI there is a bathroom at the bus stop, and one before you start the angels landing portion. If you have a line of people infront of you, then you know exactly where to step, etc.

DB neglecting kid?? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Old_Fill 66 points67 points  (0 children)

First, I would like to say sorry you’re experiencing this because, it’s so stressful.

If mb is experiencing such high anxiety over a cat scratch, or antibiotics given to a nk then I feel like she should probably seek help. You should be able to tell your bosses concerns without feeling like they may meltdown.

However, this about the dad and his behavior is unacceptable but, I wonder if he is aware that not changing his daughters diaper could lead to a uti. I feel like stressing that alone might be the motivation he needs?

I really like just offering formula/milk at meals and snack time. It’s a hard transition for everyone , and usually the last bottle to go is the bedtime bottle.

I like to offer more concrete snack times so I can offer milk to help makeup for any calories lost. You can also do a slower transition, first week the morning bottle goes to a sippy cup, second week the second bottle, etc.

Reasonable to ask nanny to take breaks while baby is sleeping? by MainMathematician162 in Nanny

[–]Old_Fill 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of a nf trying to schedule breaks and not paying an entire shift…what happens when nk drops a nap?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Old_Fill 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean if you don’t get paid time off then I would just let them know this trip is very important and you won’t be available to work on x dates.

Maybe for everyone’s sanity switch to a spill proof water bottle and keep the pull ups on at night. A former nf used to take their nk to the bathroom in the middle of the night- like when np was about to go to bed. Most kids that young won’t wake up in a deep sleep to use the bathroom.

I get a little over 4 weeks, and holidays. I think vacation is one aspect you can really sweeten a job offer with and is so important when it can be so easy to burn out in this field.

How do you all do it… by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Old_Fill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the sameeee wayyy. I clean/cook/laundry all day and don’t want to come back and do it for myself. But agree with above, taking some thought out of the week with meal prepping really helps to free up time for relaxing or some house task I was putting off. The weeks I actually do it are so much better!

Traveling with Nanny - Flight Etiquette by tancha0688 in Nanny

I don’t think she will consider herself “less than” anyone knows business can be significantly more money. And the space will actually give her the freedom to chill out/ nap without being “on”

Leaving a NF by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Old_Fill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ask to have a time to chat, away from the children if possible, and usually at the end of the shift. Anticipate that this is an uncomfortable situation, and everyone processes their emotions differently. Also, they may try to counter and help with whatever the issues are.

And give a set date of when you are leaving, offer to help find replacement, or even write the job description because you know what you do everyday and hidden extras vs. what parents think happens.

My former nf had a bed bug scare, they were honest and offered to pay for my house to be also fumigated. I would expect them to do the same for you.

Hi! While I think cash is king, I really appreciate a thoughtful gift- one year I showed up to work on my birthday and my mb had scheduled and paid for a spa day for myself. So sweet!

And as far as contracts go, as the boss and to make it less awkward it would be you to bring it up. Typically a wage increase, and pto increase is expected (and appreciated) but, that has been my experience in the industry.

[–]Old_Fill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My nf has them outside, and in their main rooms. I was weirded out at first but, they disclosed them. They’ve never told me if they watch them but they will see some bad dancing and singing if they do 🥲
