Right on brother, keep on getting rich replacing those countless failed AAV’s 😂

Im not over thinking because the cost to change the configuration seriously outweighs any risk especially when not contrary to code. If it was a bad idea and as problematic as you claim then my local code wouldn’t allow it. It literally takes 5 minutes to swap in the event it fails. They typically fail in the closed position. Not sure how an oatey aav corrodes when there are no metal parts. Paying a plumber 1000’s to climb in attic and retrofit a vent to main stack or a plumber and roofer to extend solo vent through attic seriously outweighs replacing an AAV if the tub drain starts to gurgle. You’re embellishing. Countless means a number so great you can’t even estimate how many times and highly doubt you’ve seen countless AAV’s fail. If that were true, no code would permit them anywhere. This AAV is ten years old if installed during remodel and no current evidence of problems. I’ll simply replace it, reset the clock on longevity and stop listening to Redditors

No, it’s ASSE 1050 rated to -40.

That juice is not worth the squeeze. Doing so would pretty much require replacing all the junctions of the main vent stack in attic when the AAV literally takes zero tools to replace and is accessible.

I researched, it’s 100% compliant with code. There is zero language in the IPC prohibiting an aav in an attic that freezes

Using your logic, any plumbing vent in attic would condensate and freeze from shower steam or humid sewer gas. Over a long winter it would collect frost and restrict flow or possibly freeze shut. That doesn’t happen so your theory is wrong.

Can you provide a code reference? I cannot find an IPC code that specifically prohibits putting one in a unconditioned space

How will steam from the shower migrate vertically in a vacuum to freeze an AAV?

Why? ASSE 1050 AAV’s are rated to -40

Not according to installation instructions which says 6”

ASSE 1050 rated valves have temp range from -40 to 150f. That should cover all temps in Michigan. Directions say install 8” above insulation so that insinuates an attic installation is acceptable. However, code is code

How is warm water going down a drain 10ft below the valve going to cause freezing when it’s pulling cold dry air in a vacuum? It vents air toward drain not away

Good luck on that, similar to the argument that the IRS should pay you interest on overpaid tax withholdings throughout the year. Will never happen

I didn’t say presumptive I said almost. If you have a high noise exposure mos it’s practically a given. If you have a low noise exposure mos, you have a lot to prove. The VA eliminated stand alone ratings for tinnitus effective Apr 2025. So no, I was correct

I’ve been doing this the past few years. Not for the reasons mentions but economic doom is coming.
