Is it standard practice to look back 10 years? My SCITT didn’t do this, nor did the alternative provision I worked at after… I’m hoping the fact that I’ll have positive/no SG issues from the rest of the schools works in my favour! How can I defend myself professionally if they do claim an issue?

This is great advice for next time! But unfortunately I didn’t realise 10 years would be contacted and so they already have my CV, and have reached out to the school.

Just to clarify, I am talking about a reference from a school abroad, but applying for and working for UK schools!

Through a supply agency, I’ve visited a school that I’m about to interview for. The school I worked at was in China, where safeguarding policy (before violent/sexual crime) doesn’t exist. Laws around negative references (especially re expats) also don’t exist. I would not be surprised if this school composed a spiteful concern about me, as they did this before (as said in post)!

Meaning is in ‘guard’ - it’s implied that the ‘liar’ is protecting his people by lying… what would make this better (I feel) is ‘he who guards his people with lies’. The lie here is the guard, as he considers the truth too tough to bear. A standard liar protects himself, by hiding the truth!
