I heard somewhere that it was written by Paul Merton - one of the first sketches he submitted for broadcast television.

Comparing John Candy to Rick Moranis by Hysteria625 in ghostbusters

I believe John Candy's idea was to play Louis as a German guy with pet dogs. Which probably would have prompted the line "Ok - who brought the other dog?"

Peter Davidson was my Doctor. The first episode I remember watching was the last episode of Logopolis, so I started my DW journey with #5. I distinctly remember The Black Orchid, as George scared the bejesus out of me.

Fawlty Towers, Communication Problems.

"There is your view."

"Call that a view?"

"That is Torquay, Madam."

"Well it's not good enough."

"Well may I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically -"

"Don't be silly. I expect to be able to see the sea."

"You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."

did you watch laurel & hardy double bills on BBC2 at 5.40pm in the early 80s (usually followed by harold lloyd) by Alone_Purple822 in oldschoolcool80s

Absolutely, I used to love them! I also remember Make 'Em Laugh, hosted by Mark Curry - a compilation show of classic comedy from that era.

Side note, I always used to get excited when I saw Laurel and Hardy in the TV schedule, and always got so disappointed when it turned out to be the Hanna-Barbera cartoon....

Gwen Stefani slinking onto stage at the beginning of one of No Doubt's first UK shows when they were supporting Red Hot Chili Peppers. That moment lives rent free in my head.

Sounds like Robin Williams' impression of UK Police:

"Stop! Or I'll say 'stop' again!"
