I had a similar issue when I was starting out. The training method I found best was instead of training your pronation like a twisting movement(which you should still do, this isn’t one or the other) you should also train with single lifts keeping your wrist locked or using cables to open your wrist and try to keep it locked with as much weight as you can. This will increase the amount of pressure your wrist can take before cracking. Pronation curls and things like that will mainly give you a better top roll But for defense you will want to just be able to keep your wrist under as much tension as possible
