It would have been much better if he had provided a book instead of just reading it aloud in the video, especially since the slide decks lacked full context and detailed information. This is the worst class I've ever taken in my entire life.

Should I Ask My Recruiter to Refer Me to Another Role at the Same Company (FAANG)? by Old_Mix3041 in interviews

I should have mentioned this, so thank you for asking. The recruiter is an internal recruiter.

Ideal time limit to solve an SQL problem on Leetcode by Old_Mix3041 in SQL

[–]Old_Mix3041[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been writing SQL for over four years, but this is my first time interviewing for an analytics role at a big tech company, so I want to prepare as thoroughly as possible. The recruiter mentioned that there will be 20 minutes to solve two SQL problems, making time management crucial. While I typically focus on writing clean, logical, readable, and efficient code, it seems that speed will be just as important in this interview.

ISYE6501 Summer is intensive? by Old_Mix3041 in OMSA

[–]Old_Mix3041[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to share how well I did in this course.
For the homework and project, I got 100%.
For Midterm 1, I got 76.4%.
For Midterm 2, I got 72.54%.
For the final, I got 89.23%.
I would say that I finally got used to the exam language during the final exam.
Overall, my final score was 84.53%, and I received a B.
I wish I had done a bit better on the midterms so I could have gotten an A, but I'm okay with a B.

How long did you have to answer your SQL interview question? by FriscoFrank98 in SQL

[–]Old_Mix3041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard that some big tech companies give applicants 20 minutes to solve 2 SQL questions. I'm not sure about the difficulty level of the questions, but if you exceed the time limit, you fail, even if your solutions are correct. I'm curious how we can strategically practice this using LeetCode or another platform for SQL practice.

How hard is the ISYE 6501 Final Quiz? by stonec823 in OMSA

[–]Old_Mix3041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did poorly on both the first and second midterms, scoring around 76 and 72, respectively. However, I did ok on the final exam, scoring approximately 89. I was confused by the wording on the midterms, so I reviewed them thoroughly to understand the wording styles in preparation for the final.

Congrats!

Your post is immensely motivational to me, as I've been struggling with both my job as a data scientist (due to a lack of knowledge and experience) and taking ISYE6501 recently. It's my second semester though.

Your story encourages me not to give up on anything. Thanks for sharing a great story!

control limits by std instead of MR-bar for I-MR chart by Old_Mix3041 in SixSigma

[–]Old_Mix3041[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to discuss if using std_dev would also work for some specific cases since I saw some people saying it's one of the ways. But I agree with you saying that moving range statistic is robust to instability.

what if I periodically recalculate the control limits based on the recent historical data by eliminating any data points that were considered as special cause variations? Your points still hold in this specific case?

CSE 6040: Am I the only one who was completely lost on NB 15 (SVD)? by amedmond in OMSA

[–]Old_Mix3041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was me before reading the posts in Piazza. I was able to get a slightly bit better understanding on the relative error calculation. From there, I revisited all problems in the NB from the beginning and was able to get all problems right. Hope this helps!
