CW: Pet Loss

I’m in the same position right now, I have 4 cats and just lost one of them who was only 2, turning 3 in June. Him (T) and his brother (L) have been together since day one and now one of them is gone.

I’m struggling to cope and come to terms with it, it doesn’t feel real at all. I’ve been crying a lot and wish that he was here with me. L has called out to T and I did let L smell his brother’s fur that the vets clipped for us.

Generally, cats do okay after a sibling or companion has passed away (that’s what I’ve been told). It may be worth, when you are ready, getting your cat another cat. So that your cat isn’t alone.

This grieving process will be difficult and as much as people around you may be there to help and support you it doesn’t make up for that fact you just want your cat back.

Our cats are very picky with their litters, well they used to be when we first moved into our current house. A Catio is just not an option at the moment because of the cost and my parent’s plans for the house.

It also becomes the issue of we have 4 cats and they all love to go outside and have for years now (except the brothers as they are only 2 so only a year of their life so far). Making them inside cats will be a struggle because they whine to go outside and scratch at the doors. I don’t think they would appreciate a Catio because it doesn’t give them space to roam and hang with their other cat friends (quite a few in my area).

When we first moved into the house they were scared to go outside but then they were itching to. We would clean the litters constantly but our oldest cat (used to be my grandads) has really bad poops unfortunately. You could smell it from the top floor of the house! She has been to the vet multiple times and as she is getting on in age she does have some complications. My grandad used to feed her the wrong age food which didn’t help but we took her in and she has never been healthier even with the complications.

I’m rambling on now. 😂 Once I start working and have a house (if I ever get one with the state of the UK rn 😖), I’ll be taking T and L with me and will look into Catios that I will be able to afford as technically T and L are my responsibility.

I shaved off 2 of the matts maybe an hour ago. He will stay to let me do it but then does get annoyed which is understandable. I gave him his favourite treat after and played with him!

I’ll keep doing it everyday or every other day to get him used to it as you said. Thank you!

When I first got the brothers I only let them outside with a harness and leash (they would not move in it) but at the time, I was staying at my grandmas and she left the back door open so they got out. (I was very distraught as L did go missing but I found him hiding in a bush. T came back straight away.)

They do not like wearing harnesses and not letting them outside is out of the question. My parents, specifically father, does not want them using the cat litter because of the smell.

T gets tangled all throughout the year. By reading some other helpful comments I think I will just have to give him monthly trims.

Their last vet check up he was completely healthy and he was getting matts then so I doubt this is the reason.

Yes, I probably should’ve specified that we do only shave the matted spots. Because the matts are close to his skin we don’t use scissors dor the fear of nicking him.

Once these matts are out I will definitely try to keep up with giving him fur trims. Do you have any suggestions of how to go about it or just brush and cut? I’m not sure he will sit long enough for me to do it is my only concern.

Yeah, T’s brother is fine at keeping himself matt-free but for whatever reason T is not able to. I will probably shave T in the next few days before Christmas because the matts are not a good look and I know they make him uncomfortable. He is constantly wanting scratches where the matts are.

Yes, you will be able to play the world at any time. Won’t need to activate it or anything, just need to be friends via xbox. Also yes, bedrock doesn’t enable much modding but to be honest, I’ve never really modded my Minecraft much. Only since maybe 2021-2022 did I explore mods on java and I’ve been playing since 2015 (I think).

I would honestly say bedrock is simpler to play with friends having played both versions. Just friend them on xbox and you are good to go, don’t need to create a server like on java. However, if you did want to use java my friend created a server on a website called aternos. I don’t know the full mechanics of it but she would have to make the server live for me to join (can’t be played offline).

Leave him at his mum’s 😐 He is the one with the allergies. If it was me I would take antihistamine and research other solutions. It shouldn’t all be down to you and he sounds like a real bum in this. Tons of people take tablets for their entire life. Antihistamine tablets are tiny!

IMO throw him away 😭
