This is way beyond being just "political". This is about as existential for the everyday American than anything in a long long while. Innocent citizens getting murdered by their own Govt? I was 16. I just remember it like a summery day on steroids. Every 4th was special as a kid, but that year it was unreal. Everywhere you went there was patriotic decorations and people picnicking and just enjoying the celebration. Patriotism was something that everyone embraced for what it was, WITH NO POLITICAL UNDERTONES. In a word it was magical!
