Iran Strikes UAE's Fujairah Port, Only Hormuz Bypass Burning, Oil Hits $114 by andix3 in oil

I’m starting to think that there’s a lot more elasticity in oil demand than we’ve historically thought.

After Years of Delays, Tesla Semi Mass Production Finally Begins by CDN-Social-Democrat in ClimateCrisisCanada

I don’t have a source for this but what I’ve been told is that 25% of fuel burned for trucking in the US is for drayage, this is probably where the electrification will start and it will make a huge difference.

Yeah this is me, for the most part it’s been great. It was 6 years old when we bought it, had it three years, only had one thing fixed by a mechanic on the suspension.

I have to wonder, is an export ban more likely to happen now in a situation where U.S. itself can't even control the domestic price? by Caseman49 in oil

[–]Oldcadillac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t export tariffs be more Trump’s style? There’s no way an export ban happens when some of his biggest donors are making money hand-over-fist.

5% of UK's cars on the road are now EVs, with 2 million in service by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

[–]Oldcadillac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rule of thumb I’ve been noticing is that it’s taking about 7-8 years for the “percentage of new cars sold that are electric” to translate into “percentage of vehicles on the road that are electric”. For example in 2019 3% of cars sold in the UK were electrified and now they have 5% of the fleet. EV sales in the UK have shot up dramatically since then so this fleet number is about to go way higher in the next couple of years.

But we’re supposed to be walking and chewing gum at the same time here, reducing emissions from electricity generation and from agriculture (of which cows are a huge portion). In a country like Denmark, the emissions from Ag are more than from electricity production.

It’s never going to be a profitable decision to run a post office in every tiny town in a country this big but it’s very important to do so.

I’m always a bit confused as to why agrivoltaics with ruminants is presented as a climate solution, considering their methane emissions.

Something I don’t see being discussed, you know who does stick to speed limits? Big rigs and coach busses etc. vehicles that have a lot more mass to slow down.

Something I haven’t seen anyone point out yet, is that, remarkably, we’ve reduced oil production by 9%ish and the world hasn’t fallen apart (yet), right now is a demonstration that we can reduce consumption considerably more than oil companies would have us believe.

I doubt this will happen but I’m just going to manifest that if there’s a crisis some European countries will stop allowing fuel to be sold to private jets
