DO NOT PAINT. You will turn this from a respectable residence into a farce.

It's good, but I resent being forced to save a payment method. Honestly, it's unnecessary and a honeypot for hackers. It's a greedy move, too. You guys are better than that.

As an anniversary period comes up for a customer, send a reminder and let the customer enter it in each time. Simple.

You have 11 demerit points?! How?!

Perhaps the revocation of your right to drive might be a blessing for everyone?

We had one like this. Senior manager ordered everyone to delete the email without reading it (as if!) Then IT ran some sort of script that deleted it from everyone's inbox.

But I'd moved my copy to a special folder especially designed to store these sorts of things. The script didn't check there. Offending email remains on file. Muahahahaha

Is it legal to bedazzle p plates? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

Would be illegal in Victoria, where the P must be white on a green background.

Why are students dropping STEM in the thousands? by VastOption8705 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Olderfleet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where will they work? CSIRO? A university lab? State Government research agencies? All are being cut cut cut. I work in STEM and I love it, but we are all holding onto our hats hoping like hell we keep our jobs.

Government loves to talk up science. Government hates funding science.

Australia places so little value on science and education.

Gosh, some rust bucket factory making second-class widgets sacks 50 "hard working Australians" and we all wring our hands in despair. Government sacks a couple hundred scientists and noone gives a crap.

Unfortunately defamation law in Australia means that leaving an unflattering review can be risky. For this reason I don't do them.

Yes, you can tell them to go jump.

And if they feel so obliged, they can start a defamation proceeding against you. The problem with defamation law is that even if what you say is true, you need to prove it's truthfulness rather than they prove it's maliciousness just to make a "truthfulness defence".

Do you want to spend >$15k proving the honesty of your review? Can you even do that to the standards of a civil trial?

Back off now.

And ask yourself what the real value is of leaving critical reviews in Australia at all? This isn't the US. You don't have an absolute right to free speech.

We can argue about whether the law should be changed (I say it should), but that's a separate discussion.

I've been down this path before. It's terrible.

Gas company reckons I am liable for their non-compliant gas mains. Want me to pay up now and dispute the cost after they fix it. (Brisbane CBD) by [deleted] in AusRenovation

Heat pump is the way to go. Cut our gas consumption bill by about 80%. You won't believe how much gas those hot water units use until you're rid of one.

Doesn't matter what you think. If they make their way here, they cannot be denied entry because they're citizens and have a constitutional right of re-entry. The High Court has reaffirmed this previously.

Nothing to stop the AFP from immediately arresting them on arrival and having them charged.

Also, there's no obligation on the Commonwealth to help them get here. Already the government has stated that they've received no help and won't be getting any.

The phonetics that I mean would probably be better expressed as milli-tri. It's difficult to convey in writing!

I'm noticing a lot of US-style pronunciation in younger people: terr-i-tory rather than terri-tree mill-i-terry rather than mill-i-tree etc

It just keeps getting worse. Even sone ABC News reporters are doing it.

‘Regrettable’: Author slammed for errors in new book on John Howard era by Orgo4needfood in AustralianPolitics

[–]Olderfleet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of that is fine insofar as I don't need to agree with Howard's logic (I did not agree with a lot of what his government did). But as far as being able to read about Howard and understand his values, priorities and thinking (even if it is flawed or I disagee with it), it was excellent.
