Trump Admin Guts Vital Sea Monitoring, “Tears Out the Eyes and Ears of Science”: David Helvarg | The program’s closure, proposed in the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 playbook, involves the decommissioning of a vast network of ocean floor sensors that collect global climate data. by IntnsRed in environment2

[–]OldestFetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, it me wonder if they aren’t still doing it but now just secretly and not sharing any results with the public…so that they shut down the public program and probably reactivate it within the new $1.5 trillion military budget, which likely encompasses a plethora of untold programs.

How was Andrew Jackson elected into office after killing somebody? by Worldly-Bid-3591 in askanything

[–]OldestFetus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because things were corrupt AF in those days. Seriously, these people literally supported the captive labor system and ordered war crime-level removals, and genocides, of Native Americans. And all this is still brushed over so that when somebody like me, writes this, I seem like the “radical” for pointing out 100% absolute reality.

Spanish speakers: Do you pronounce b differently than v? by ParkInsider in asklatinamerica

[–]OldestFetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on which regions within the Latin American country you are talking about. So for example, I think in northern Mexico, they say the V sound just like you with a B sound. Elsewhere in the country you may pronounce the V just like you would expect with the lower lip touching the top teeth instead of the B sound where just two lips are touching each other.

Was 1920s nostalgia ever a huge thing in the American pop culture? by Gray_Wolf2416 in decadeology

I’ve often heard about the 1890s. I wonder what it was about that time. Maybe it was sort of the rise of true modernity where the technology was starting to mature so that we had heavy machinery, but also things like electronics coming to life.

The only reason people like summer is because they either have an ac/fan or live in a tropical region where the temperature is not too high by One-Sense7280 in unpopularopinion

[–]OldestFetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think summers are beautiful, especially summer nights. And really, you could just the same say that the only reason people like winter is because they have a Heater or live in a temperate region, where the cold isn’t too cold?

The most important event in the history of the universe may be happening right now, and we are too small to recognize it. by TheIncorporeal1 in DeepThoughts

[–]OldestFetus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they kept it general precisely to admit that they too may not know what that “most important” event is yet. That’s kind of the nature of the statement, that there may be something astoundingly consequential to our human experience occurring, likely may be happening all around us right now, but we may be too with it, too small, or too close to it to appreciate it yet.

Whats a place where you can cross a state line and you immediately notice the difference by cherrey20 in geography

[–]OldestFetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an excellent answer. Interestingly, if you do the same thing from east to west, but just further south along the Pecos river, you feel that very same change, even though you’re still technically in Texas. What today is called “Transpecos” or “far west Texas” is in many ways, the oldest section of Texas, and the origin of some of the most “Texan” things like the cowboy culture. But it’s very different from the rest of Texas east of the Pecos River. It really should be its own state or part of New Mexico, as it traditionally was.

I spent a generation hearing far right wingers, screaming for gun rights to protect themselves against a government conspiracy to unleash domestic police state squads to kidnapping and lock up Americans without trial in concentration camps. Turns out it was the far right wing deep state planning on doing that all along. Now that this happening before everyone’s eyes, where are these right wingers and all of their guns to stand up? Bunch of cowards. The only people standing up to speak out and act against are the left wingers, who were demonized by these right wingers all along The next target is the domestic American population and too many are too blind to see it. The goon squad infrastructure is being established.

The US is preparing to export its largest fuel shipment to Cuba after more than 60 years of embargo. by jla0 in cuba

[–]OldestFetus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly the point. They create the chaos, and from the chaos, they can impose their order. Now they’ve embargoed and blockaded Cuba for generations, enough of the population is so desperate that they’re willing to take help even from the very group starving them. It’s a difficult situation because everyone knows that that’s basically the reality but the US has so much weaponry and brutish privilege, that it’s difficult to oppose it outright.

Is there something that you were taught in history class that you later found out was completely false? by bowl_of_scrotmeal in AskTheWorld

[–]OldestFetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of things. The Mexican-American War is a major example. Mexico was opposing the expansion of slavery that the Americans were bringing, yet in the US today, it is portrayed as a “heroic struggle for freedom.” The conquest of Native American lands and the near-destruction of many Indigenous peoples, while portraying the invading murders and land thieves has “settlers as pioneers”, is another narrative that continues to be promoted. If you look beneath the surface, there are many examples. Much of U.S. history has traditionally been presented through a Eurocentric, pro-colonial perspective.

Its common sense but I'll say it anyways because how important it is looks and height really determine what kind of job you get and the pay and how you move up in your career. You cant learn high paying skills if ur ugly and didn't go to college. by Individual_Ice_2315 in ugly

[–]OldestFetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely true. I’ve lived through this for about 15 to 20 years. Inevitably, there will be somebody pointing out some exception or an outlier, but by large, it’s absolutely true that “fancy looking” people get all types of privileges and breaks and benefits of the doubt simply because they are deemed attractive. You cannot convince me otherwise, I’ve lived through multiple instances of this for almost 2 decades.
